To compete with companies such as Wal-Mart and Amazon, Target has become one of the only retailers to embrace the coaching model. According to the textbook, coaching is a “high directive-high supportive style” where a “leader focuses communication on both achieving goals and meeting the followers socioemotional needs.” The implementation of a coaching model within Target has the potential to affect engagement, guest experience, performance, sales, and team members’ quality of life.
