Teaching Assistant Goalposts

The teaching assistant should ensure that the pitch is safe, it should be situated on even ground without the presence of holes or foreign objects. The goalposts should be checked before each game. If the goalposts are portable the teaching assistant must ensure they are secured to the ground, to prevent danger of collapsing. If the goalposts are found to be unsafe they should be replaced with plastic markers. The teaching assistant should assess the weather conditions, in extreme weather conditions the activity should be rescheduled. The teaching assistant should ensure all children have their water bottles, especially in hot weather to avoid dehydration. It is important for the teaching assistant to make sure they have all asthma inhalers
and an adequately stocked first aid kit before taking the children out to the pitch. the teaching assistant should check that the ball is pumped to the appropriate pressure and is not too hard or damaged in anyway. It is also important for the teaching assistant to make sure all the children are wearing shin pads and appropriate footwear, no metal studs should be allowed to avoid injury to themselves or others, footwear needs to be appropriate so there is no danger of slipping. All jewellery should be removed or taped up to avoid injury. Children should be made aware that dangerous play and physical violence will not be tolerated and children found to be breaching these rules will be cautioned or sent off. The teaching assistant should ensure that all children have warmed up before the activity and cooled down after to avoid unnecessary injuries.
