I found Mark Bittman's Tedtalk, What's wrong with what we eat talk to be somewhat educational, but also misleading at the same time especially when it came to agriculture. It is true that humans are over eating especially when it comes to meat, but that is because we're no longer cavemen who need to go out and hunt for our meals but instead, we can go to the grocery store or a restaurant to get anything we desire. Thus I believe that added convince is what is adding to the obesity epidemic, not the agriculture industry. One thing that I felt was semi-true was that yes agriculture production is the second most polluter in the US, but only about 2% of the United States population are farmers, and that 2% strongly cares about the environment especially…
Assignment Instructions In this Ted Talk by Jason Pointin, he mentioned of how technology have been invested and advanced in the past, so he compared to our current technology to the last generation. In the video, Pointin listed the all the important events which highlighted the America technology history, it was started from 1901 the Assembly line till 1969 the crew of Apollo 10 flew at 250000 miles per hour in the space towards the moon. It is useful during that time because the country tends to use technology help the human to solve the problem but in our current society that now technology is more focus on the electronic devices as Ponitin mentioned that since 1970 no human beings have been back to the moon and blithe optimism about technology's…
The first Ted Talk was about ben dunlap and his many Hungarian mentors. He mostly focused on Mr. Sandor Teszler and is the current president of Wofford College. His uncle Henry was living under a death threat from the Ku Klux Klan. His uncle did a very Hungarian act by moving his family to Massachusetts so that he could face the Ku Klan Klan alone in South Carolina. Thinking about it, I pretty sure I would do the same thing being in his situation. Hungarians have their own equivalent of the Ku Klux Klan which I found disturbing. Dunlap states that, “Sandor Teszler somewhat resembles Mahatma Gandhi, minus the loincloth and plus orthopedic boots.” He was teased for having two club feet.…
To relate to a topic or issue that occurred more than 150 years ago is a challenge, to say the least. The battle between what is legal and what is morally and ethically correct, is an age-old debate that dates back centuries ago. In this speech, there is clear evidence that there was at least one or more United States laws or treaties broken. In this TED Talk presented by author Aaron Huey, a passionate cultural writer and photographer, there is discussion about the Lakota Indian Tribe. Huey goes on to break down a timeline of the tribe’s journey, rise to power, and subsequent demise.…
I watched Sheryl Sandburg’s Ted talk and read this article. After watching the Ted talk I thought she brought up a lot of interesting facts and I did not think she left anything out. After reading the article though I changed my mind. Even though Sandburg did have good arguments I felt as though she left out entire groups of women. Not everyone has the opportunity to even go to school in some developing countries because they are female. How can she say women need to try harder if some never get the opportunity to try in the first place? Her Ted talk was a good start at motivating women who already have these opportunities but her talk would be hopeless for a woman who never had basic schooling. I liked how she brought up how most females who…
This Ted Ed Talk by Brene Brown discusses the idea of human connection and the power of accepting ones self. Brene discusses her journey to try to dissolve the mystery of vulnerability and the lack of human connection involved with it. Her research concludes that the best way to connect with others is to accept and embrace that you are vulnerable, and your vulnerabilities are a part of you. To be able to connect with others, you must first be able to connect with yourself. Brene discusses that vulnerability is a possible birth place for joy and love, art and beauty. Her research points out that we try to numb our vulnerabilities. However we go further and we numb our gratitude, happiness. We try to numb all of our emotions.…
In the Ted Talk, “Taking Imagination Seriously”, Janet Elchelman discussed a few problems that she has faced, and the strategies she used to solve them. Janet was first faced with the issue of her paints not arriving on time, then after brainstorming she was faced with another problem of her material being too heavy, then Janet reveals another dilemma that she was confronted with; there was not software designed yet to aid her in creating her sculpture. When the paints had not arrived Janet dove right into problem solving. She clearly understood she could not create the art that was planned. Janet started to look for alternatives, one being the brass sculpture.…
As we know, nothing and no one is perfect. As humans, we all make mistakes that we are afraid to admit especially, on sensitive topics. In a Ted Talk by Jay smooth called, “How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Discussing Race,” he provides many methods to approach the topic of racism. Due to the topic being very substantial, Smooth begins with a humorous story about his encounters with strangers. He explains that after introductions are finished, he usually has to explain his ethnicity to others as that is one of their first few questions. Throughout the talk, Smooth does a great job of using analogies, and emotions, to deliver his message to his audience.…
John Coyle the speaker of my Ted Talk talked about strengths and weaknesses. Coyle encouraged his audience to focus more on their strengths rather that their weaknesses. Coyle believed that if a person worked too long to improve their weaknesses, then it is obvious that they can’t improve those weaknesses, and should move on to focusing on their strengths. Therefore, the best thing to do is to move on to building up their strengths, because they can surely improve their strengths. According to the author of the book The Other Wes Moore, Wes never took the time to focus on his weaknesses in school. Wes focused on what he thought as an easy way to make money by selling drugs. He had a strength to manage,…
Dalia Mogahed begins her Ted Talk saying, “What do you think when you first look at me?” She explains in her video that people shouldn’t have negative perceptions of her faith. Because she is herself a Muslim, she speaks on experience on how the media has perceived Muslims as bad people. Due to the accusations, it has affected her life extremely. She hopes that people chose empathy over prejudice when the media, for example, or really anyone classifies them as bad people.…
In the Ted Talk video “The Surprising Science of Happiness”, Dan Gilbert discusses the effects of how happiness works in regards to certain situations, such as in times of success and loss. In his discussion of happiness, he states that people not only have a biological immune system, but also a “psychological immune system” in which people can “synthesize happiness” (CITATION). To break these concepts down, the immune system functions to protect the body against diseases that can result in death. Just like the immune system, the psychological immune system works similarly in which the brain will work to fight off the unhappiness and stresses in a person’s life. Once the psychological immune systems starts to function, people will try to synthesize…
David Brooks talks about resume virtues and eulogy virtues in his TED Talk, “Should You Live for Your Resume . . . or Your Eulogy?” He has a perspective on how there are two sides in every person. There is the side that wants to be successful, ambitious, and create many things in the world. Then there is the other side. The other side that is humble and wants to be good, not just do good things. He said that the motto for this side is “love and redemption” (). He points out these two sides and gives his audience a moment to think about which side they would like to be.…
The new generation of kids are being affected by technology enormously throughout the growth of technology. Ruth states in her article that a study done by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that children from the age of eight to eighteen are spending more than seven and a half hours a day on technology (Ruth 1). Which affects the children because it cause them to do less physical activity. She also states “The danger with our technology-obsessed kids, Greenfield warns, is that they are no longer accustomed to the full range of mess and meaningful human interaction” (Ruth 2). Kids no longer know how to interact with one another, because they are stuck on technology. Ruth mention in her article how social technology is molding children's brain…
This report aims to give a non-bias detailed view of the Ted Talk by Mikko Hypponen titled How the NSA betrayed the world's trust -- time to act.…
When thinking of technology, many words spring to mind: innovative, fun, futuristic, essential. These positive words, however, do not encompass the whole of the issue of technology in the lives of young children. Technology, such as tablets, computers, smartphones, television, etc., has become so essential in life that it has been forgotten how to live without it, and it is this attitude that can be pushed onto the next generation of children. As soon as young children are able to grasp items, they are given a tablet, or put in front of a screen, instead of playing traditionally, with plush toys, imaginary play, or outside, in a sandpit, playing…
