TEEN MAGAZINES
Teen magazines are a genre of magazines aimed specifically at Teenagers. They contain information on the latest fashions and cosmetics, juicy gossip, tips on what to wear and what not to wear, celebrity lifestyles, relationships, compatibility tests, interviews, posters, fitness tips and much more.
Teen magazines mostly target teenage girls as customers since the topics covered are quite diversified and usually geared towards a young female audience. On the other hand, young male consumers also have magazines suited for their tastes. Teenage males buy magazines related to the topics they would be interested in, such as cars or sports. Teen magazines can be found mostly at supermarkets, pharmacies, stores and newsstands. In order to boost sale volumes, many teen magazines also began to include free posters, stickers, samples of cosmetics, shampoos and other products as trials.
HISTORY
In the United States, teen magazines were conceived of during the 1940s. In the United Kingdom, Fleetway's Honey (1960–1986) is regarded as having established the sector. Teen magazines are produced in many countries worldwide, and enjoy wide popularity in Australia, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Seventeen Magazine started publication in the US in September 1944 and was the first magazine devoted to the needs and likes of adolescents.
While some teen magazines focus almost exclusively on music and film stars, others feature more extensive coverage of lifestyle issues and are virtually junior versions of magazines such as Cosmopolitan
