Solar Heated Grill from a Recycled Shoe Box and Aluminum Foil
(An alternative for heating machine)

An Investigatory Project in Physics by:
Cabarrubias, Maria Erna
Espina, M
Jayme, Charles Nikko
Sumanga,Kimberly Kaye

Submitted to: Mrs. Christine R. Enrile

Introduction
A. Problem
B. Hypothesis
If a recycled cartoon box with aluminum foil is a proper container to store and harness heat from the sun, then, it could be used as an alternative cooking machine.
C. Objectives
The study aims to distinguish if a recycled shoe box and aluminum foil can be useful to make an alternative cooking machine. Furthermore, it sought to accomplish the following:
To solve for the accurate theoretical focal length of the parabolic curve in the solar heated grill
To construct a solar heated grill
To design an experiment to test the functionality of the grill
To perform a test to determine the magnitude of the heat of the grill per unit time

D. Significance of the study
This research centers about a study to science most specifically Optics. Through this, the students will appreciate the energy that the sun is capable of giving. This study is also a gateway to knowledge for students and teachers with respect to the recycling of old shoe box. Another thing is that this primarily serves as motivating factor for the schools or institutions to direct their students and to further strengthen their capabilities in recycling materials. Furthermore, the outcome of the study will provide information to authorized policy makers in Ecological recycled Waste Management (RA 9003). Converting these non-functional boxes does not only support the Republic Act 9003 but it also opens an avenue to develop technology in the community. On addition, this study will be able to lessen the consumption of non-renewable resources due to the fact that the energy used

We also need to understand the specifics of combustion, which is the chemical process of burning specific compounds and other items, and the specific heat capacity - the amount of thermal energy needed to increase the temperature of a given substance. Furthermore, determining the heat of combustion to compare to the values of other hydrocarbons - elements made entirely out of hydrogen and carbon - is very useful for the reasons listed above. As we know, the measurement of the quantity of heat exchanged of any type of thermal energy released is known as calorimetry - an entirely different science than we are used to. We are using each of these concepts throughout the lab experiment and are continuing to further our knowledge of each as…

When it comes to trauma and the various treatments available the list is endless. Brailsford (2007) argues that there are various therapeutic approaches and techniques used for trauma survivors. However, Brailsford (2007) goes on to discuss that some practitioners use a combination of various treatments depending on their expertise and knowledge regarding the therapeutic approach. Contrary to what many therapists might believe to be best treatment options for trauma survivors it is of utmost importance to keep in mind the client’s needs, culture, social background etc. in order for a therapeutic process to be successful as discussed by Brailsford…

Furthermore, there are many disadvantages to recycling. A large disadvantage in recycling plant themselves is that it causes a large amount of pollution through the toxins that are release in some recycling processes. Another disadvantage in recycling metal is that it’s very hard to extract from product such as the stove because it contains other materials besides metal. These include glass, plastic and rubber. A third disadvantage is that each material needs its own special machinery and chemicals in order to be properly recycled.…

Another serious problem is pollution. Pollution in cities is mainly caused by a vast amount of household waste which is rising because of the growth of population. In fact, a large proportion of rubbish are difficult to be degraded such as plastics or glass, and could last for 100 years or even thousands years. Recycling and reusing useful materials is an effective solution which is used in many cities. In addition, each house should use several rubbish bins for separate waste. It could help cities to save money for classifying rubbish and it also improves citizens’ perceptions of recycling. Moreover, cities should encourage people to use shopping baskets, especially ecofriendly baskets, instead of using so much packaging for each type of food or products when going to…

Heater meals – originally developed for military use – are ready-made self-heating meal packs. They can be heated in many ways – by pressing a button on the packaging, unwrapping and shaking the pack, or pouring the contents of one bag into another and waiting for a few minutes – all of which use exothermic chemical reactions. These meals can be used to motivate students to study such reactions relatively safely and without the use of a burner. Plus there is the added value of discussing the negative ecological aspects of disposable meals.…

In this era of economic crisis people look for new ways to save money. In business centers in big cities we observe more and more people bringing lunch from home instead of eating away in restaurants. There is a growing market of products related such as water bottles with special features, lunch bags and others. There are a significant number of business man/women who seek gardens near the workplace to eat their lunches. Others use their own offices or shopping centers. In this context we find a difficulty common to all these persons which is the impossibility to warm up their food. The daily life of these persons could be more comfortable if they had a product like the one shown in the 3D model below at their reach. This product was designed in order to transport food in a easy and elegant way and that could also warm it up. It would consist on a box with dimensions that allows someone to put it in a briefcase (approximately 20cm X 20cm X 5cm) , and the exterior would be made of cork. In the interior it would have an electric plate which can warm up food by induction and a removable recipient made of stainless steel to put the food. The cork outer shell provides not only great aesthetics but also has important mechanical properties such as waterproof, non-flammable, isothermal and is also light and cheap. We believe it would be a profitable product due to the dimension and characteristics of the market target, costumers who like new technologies and are willing to pay for them. The technology required to build it exist and it would be simple to assembly.…
