Next year with the grace of god, I will be attending Gordon College in Wenham Massachusetts. Gordon College is a private Christian institution about twenty minutes outside of Boston. At Gordon I will be studying pre-law and getting a Major in social work. I will be getting a major in social work while on the pre law track so that Hopefully one day I can become a family lawyer for the less fortunate. Being a social worker will have numerous unappealing aspects to it, but it’s something I feel strongly about because I feel…
Sherman Alexie has created and developed the character Thomas Builds-The-Fire in his book, “The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven,” because he is shown as a Native American of old tradition whereas Victor is shown as a modern-day Indian. Thomas is presented in Sherman Alexie’s stories with innumerous knowledge of reservation life and Indian culture. He is there to tell the history of his people through stories detailed with emotions as if he experienced them himself. Even though he tries to live in the past and enlighten people about what the Native Americans went through, people do not take the time to listen to him because they are moving on and becoming more modern. In the story, “This is what it means to say Phoenix Arizona,” Thomas is characterized as “the storyteller nobody wanted to listen to” and “talking to himself like he always did.” Thomas is considered the most “Indian” of his people and is all-knowing like a spiritual figure. In the same story, he knew that Victor’s father would leave before anyone, even Victor. Victor was surprised that Thomas offered him financial help to give his father a proper funeral, but soon finds out that Thomas was keeping promise to a deal. Thomas had a vision which involved Victor’s father at Spokane who told him to “take care of each other.” Although he is seen as a highly spiritual figure of tradition, it was strange to witness him killing the only living animal when he took his turn driving the pickup back home.…
Hello, I am currently a junior in college. This has been my third at Houston community college. I initially started off by wanting to be a Dental Hygienist but later I started to realize it was not something I was passionate about. I soon came to the conclusion that I want to be an elementary school teacher. In the beginning I was thinking about money rather than a degree I would be dedicated to. I graduated high school back in 2011 and to be honest college was never in my panorama. After graduating I got my first job at Family dollar and that was my wake up call. I realized that I would not be able to live an abundant life getting paid minimum wage. I knew that if I wanted to make a difference in my life, I would have to go back to school.…
I am here to discuss how hard of a situation is has been for me to get back into school. I have been out of school for 10 years and never thought it would be this difficult. We hear every day the sayings and advertisements of “go back to school” or “continue your education, it’s as easy as 1-2-3”. Well, I’m here to say that I have had one heck of a time. From not having my parents push me in the right direction when I was younger to branching off and not finding out these things until later. I certainly don’t want to say it is too late to go back to school but I do feel to be a late bloomer. Anyhow, when I first got into Austin, I had to go back and forth to the campus 4-5 times without having any accurate information from a counselor. I mean, I’m a hands on person.…
My decision to re-enroll in college was a part of a plan solely to provide for my daughter and motivate her to become independent. When I first started college, I was not thinking about my future in-depth until I discovered I was pregnant. This made me set up a plan to finish college get a degree and have a steady career by the time my daughter would be in the first grade. I stayed in college until the semester before I would deliver. Things got rocky on after the birth of my daughter but I could re-enroll after a couple of months as a new mother. I enrolled in the Remington College where I was very successful there but I was not happy. I originally wanted to go for an Associate’s degree but decided that I minus well get my Bachelors, so I transferred schools to University of Phoenix for A Bachelor’s in Business concentration Accounting. I have been to the university for a year now and have a year left. My daughter will start Pre-K this August and by the time she is in first grade, I should be doing working in career field of choice.…
As a young teenager graduating from high school over 17 years ago, I had always vision myself attending a university and pledging in a sorority. However, things didn’t go according as plan. I got caught up in this world called life and became very content not noticing that the life I had always dreamt of for myself was passing me by. Although, I received my Certified Nursing Assistant licensed back in 2001, I knew this wasn’t the career path that I wanted to stay in. I attended Chattanooga State twice before, yet I never finished. I’m an individual that always procrastinate and seems to start things but never finished. As a result of this, I feel that now is the right time for me to attend Chattanooga State. Attending Chattanooga State now will help me improve my career, lead by example and most of all prove to myself that I for once I can accomplish and finish something.…
When I first began to think about college, I was overwhelmed to say the least. More accurately, I was terrified. I had no obvious plan for the future and I didn’t know how I was going to decide where to go or what to do. I knew what I liked to do but I had no idea how interests translated into a major. It all seemed so impossible at the beginning, but as the year progressed I began to develop a goal: Meredith College. After a long period of worry and stress, I was accepted to Meredith and offered financial aid. Meredith College is my dream school and I know that’s where God wants me to grow for the next four years. I am so excited to go to school and to learn everything this important, unique school has to offer. Ever since I was little, I…
Six years prior to me starting at UOP I dropped out of college, because I had no clue what I wanted to use my skills for, I was very lost, unhappy, and I was doing nothing for myself it was for everyone else. That single event by enrolling back in school changed my personality over night for the better. The next day I started weeding people out of my life that where imputing nothing but negatives in it. That was defiantly the turning point for me without a doubt. This event came at the right time also in my life since I was in a very dark place at the time, so I guess you can say it was meant to be. Then I started two business ventures that I had wanted to start which proved to me that I could do something for myself to benefit my life and stability. I now have more than enough responsibilities that I did not have before, like keeping my business in order supplies to maintaining my customer relationships. My new house has been the biggest ordeal and not in a bad way it has been extremely difficult to get it to my standards, and since I am so busy I have not taking time just for my…
A. For my news report, the intended audience was meant to be the new freshmen attending UW-La Crosse. Freshmen students are new to campus life and they want to feel like they belong here, so I decided to write an article about how to handle midterms. This audience was very important to me, because when I was a freshman I had many questions about midterms and finals but I didn’t get any information about them except from the professors.…
I majored in Management information system. I was thinking that I would transfer the following semester. However, I felt in love with that major. I really like it, and I have learned a lot about management and the importance of using the technology in the management. My parents are so proud of my success when I graduated with high…
In 2010 I had my first child, when she turned 3 months old I decided to go back to school, this time I majored in respiratory care. I still wanted to be in the medical field, I just didn’t want to do the gruesome stuff! The second half of the semester I became pregnant again with my second daughter, this pregnancy landed me on complete bed-rest, so I had to stop going to school. A few years down the road my now three year old started to have some developmental problems and started having severe seizures. She was diagnosed with epilepsy and autism, and she has motivated me to become a teacher. I do plan on perusing my Masters in Special…
I intend on putting my study skills, drive that I had as I attended IBMC, to this time around of school, knowing that I know have God on my side, a great husband, and an amazing Spirit driven school. Being able to speak freely about my faith, while getting a degree is an amazing feeling. I do have two more children, but do also have help raising them. I know that things will be tough, and my time will be spread thin, as well as sleep will be cut short, but in the long run, this will be more than worth it, because I will break all those generational curses, and be able to give m children more that I ever dreamed.…
Michelle, your college path is similar to mine. I started out at my local community college and earned my associates and then I went off to MSU. After a year there I learned that I really didn't like my major so I took a year off and moved back home. To pay the bills I started substitute teaching and instantly fell in love with it. The next year I enrolled at GVSU and earned by bachelors in education. I had planned on getting a teaching job and going straight for my masters. Unfortunately, when I graduated most of the schools were handing out pink slips so I took a job in another industry. Within 2 years I was making what I would as a teacher with 30 years in so I never did make the move back into teaching. Over the next 10 years I got married…
I have been going to school for two semesters now and everything is running smooth so far, but I have been told by so many people that it doesn’t get hard until the third or fourth semester. So, I guess I will be alright until the third semester comes around. Then, I will be running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I know, by going back to school I will be able to support my family the way a husband and father should. I still have a long road ahead of me, but I know as long as I study hard, and do what I am told, their will be no problem finishing the program with flying colors.…
Entering college many students have no clue the major they want to pursue or their educational goals. However, I have wanted to pursue elementary education major for as long as I can remember. I do know while in college students change their major numerous times and can not say I won't end up doing the same, but I can say as of right now I know I want to major in elementary education. I have looked at many schools and the majors they have and are known for. Texas A&M from researching and hearing from alumni students, I have only heard fabulous things about the education program. With my future in mind I find Texas A&M would be a wonderful college for me and my education.…
