Texting Is Good For Us
Writing Revolution Texting. Who does it? The answer is that almost everyone in the world today texts. But a majority of those texts are for different purposes. Some are via text messages to friends, peers, and family. Others might be a social media post about the brand new car you just got or the new job you got hired at. There are so many uses for texting now in today’s society but different people believe that texting is good or bad for different reasons. Some people think that texting is a downfall to society, or think it can lead to revolutionary ways of writing, or that it can help emulate our writing to how we speak. No matter what you believe, texting is helping language advance.

Grabill explains to us the potential behind digital writing and its benefits. Digital networks have expanded all the technologies of writing to be more out of the box than just texting. Even if you do not text you exert a technique of digital writing everyday as any type of profession. Grabill talks about the extensive research he has done on literary writings and he says that it is actually good we are developing a technological way of writing. But he says that in our schools this technological way of writing is completely neglected. Schools are teaching writing the same way they did 100 years ago even with all these advances. If writing continues being taught this way he says that we will only see bad writing from the students. Now that everyone is texting and it is a pivotal point in today’s society for communication between peers, families, and friends it would be constructive to teach these ways of writing to kids. Throughout her speech, she attracts the audience toward the speech by using pathos or the audience’s appeal to emotion. Nancy believes that texting has the potential to save more lives than modern medicine does. Most teenagers are texting 3,000-4,000 times a month. They decided to use this data and began texting around 200,000 kids a week to further their campaign with making their schools better. But they found an unintended consequence, as suicides have risen throughout our communities and it’s becoming an epidemic. They receive text from kids talking about being bullied, self-harm, and child abuse. They saw these text they received back and she proposed that we use texting as an output for some of these people to get help. She designed this texting program to help teenagers specifically cope with their depression and suicidal thoughts.
