I feel there is a hidden norm amongst this generation on who should text who first. I think it shouldn’t be so difficult to text, all these hidden expectations for texting should disappear and everyone should follow one policy in order to feel more comfortable with texting: Be respectful. We need to stop treating texting like it is an old-fashioned thing when it isn’t. You can be respectful no matter the age or time period. Texting isn’t something that previous generations were dealing with, yet it is often being compared to other modes of communication that previous generations used. Basically, this person is responsible for the whole dynamic to go well. It’s unfair because a text message is usually a 2-person activity. For one person to do all of the work at all times in a 2-person activity is disrespectful because they don’t have to make time to check in and keep up the conversation. They have no obligations for this dynamic to turn out wonderful if you aren’t putting in work too. If that same person, has no idea where your head is because they are doing all of the work, they will end up not enjoying talking to you.
