Thanksgiving Essay

Have you ever wondered when the first thanksgiving was celebrated. Most people would say that the first thanksgiving was in November of 1621, but actually Thanksgiving was not official till 1864 during the American Civil War. President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of "Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens," to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November. Today’s thanksgiving compared to the 1621 thanksgiving despite all the differences pilgrims and the indians had many different things then what we have today. For example they didn't eat the delicious homemade pies or they didn’t go and buy a turkey they had to catch it themselves. Many people do different things on Thanksgiving Day. Many people on thanksgiving eat turkey, but not everyone does. For example at least 3% of the people in Mrs. Norwines 3rd hour class doesn’t eat turkey. Some of the student ether eat ham or they just eat the other appetizing foods there as well. As most people would announce the main theme of thanksgiving is turkey and the food. According to our 3rd hour class the main point of thanksgiving is spending time with your family and friends. Many students in my class do different and similar things on thanksgiving.

The most common
Sometimes kids and parents are in a divorce and they have to go with the one who doesn't celebrate thanksgiving then they don’t have a choice but to not celebrate it at all. If you think about it some kids don’t celebrate it because their parents don't celebrate or they can’t afford it. So when you don’t want to go celebrate it with your family or if you just don’t want to go, just think of the kids and families that can’t do exactly what you are doing. For most kids the state likes to be generous and give them the week off, for our school we have Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday
