Imagine that you're a young girl living in Cuba in the 90s when one day, your dictator offered you to leave with no punishment. Suddenly, before you know it, you're on a homemade raft sailing to Cuba. This is a great adventure story, and it has emotional elements, and things never ever stop happening Isabel has the best story in this book because it is a good adventure story.. For example, after they reached land for the first time, they soon found out they were in the Bahamas and detoured on their way to Florida. Almost as soon as they got there, they were told “the pregnant women may come ashore and receive medical attention”. But she cannot have her baby here. Did I mention that after this the coast guard chased them down and Isabel's father distracted them by fake drowning and was taken back to Cuba? When they were rushing to shore, Isabel's mom gave birth on the boat. There is much more that happens in this story, like exciting action, suspenseful moments, and also some sad moments. Isabel’s story also made you emotionally attached. Especially when things like Ivan’s death and Isabel’s grandfather sacrificed himself. That stuff really made you sad once you were that far in the book. All of this would make this story the best movie. This evidence proves my point on how her story would be the best and most interesting for a movie. Isabel had to quickly go from being at home safe in Cuba to immediately going on a raft that would soon start breaking. She did this because the Cuban leader at the time, Fidel Castro, allowed Cubans “to leave Cuba.legally.once and for all.” (Gratz 43)Before she could even leave the country, she had to get gas. This would affect them for the rest of the trip with a slow drip of water into the boat. After this, the engine goes out, making them stranded, and they can't seem to figure out why it isn't working. As they were trying to figure this out, an “enormous tanker headed right for them” (Gratz 103) and isn't showing any signs of stopping. Miraculously, they got their engine started in just enough time for them to get out of the tankers path. Very shortly after they were safe, the engine died out again. This is only the beginning of her story, and it is already full of suspense, excitement, cliffhangers, and plot twists. Some may argue that Josef's story is a better story due to him being on the run from the Nazis, making it more thrilling. However, he spends part of his story just sitting on the boat going back to Europe. Isabel's story is a much better option because it is always full of adventure.
