Nationalism, the love and support of one's country, has always existed. At this time, however, it was so prominent, it helped cause the first world war. Since so much pride was devoted to countries, it made the possibilities of peace between past rivals less probable. People felt great loyalty and were willing to do anything for their country. In history, many wars have been over territorial disputes. A country feels nationalistic, and people's pride leads to people wanting to expand with more land. A country can feel so strongly about this, that they will fight for it. The spark of the world was the assassination of the Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife. On going down Elm St. now, there were three shots. Two of the shots hit the president, one in the neck and one in the head, and the third shot hit the governor. Ninety seconds after the shots, officers rushed into the Texas School Book Depository to find a man named Lee Harvey Oswald eating his lunch very calmly on the second floor and a sniper rifle on the sixth floor. In 1976, the US Senate ordered a fresh inquiry into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, who was murdered in 1963 during a motorcade in Dallas, Texas while campaigning for re-election. People who had been involved in the original Warren Commission investigations were asked to make fresh statements. The FBI and the CIA were persuaded to release more of their documents on Oswald. New lines of inquiry were opened and individuals who had not previously given evidence were persuaded to come forward. Most important of all, pieces of evidence such as photos and sound recordings were subjected to scientific analysis using the most up-to-date methods and equipment. The House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) completed their investigation in 1979 and they finally came to a discrete verdict that Lee Harvey Oswald fired three shots at Kennedy, one of which killed the president. A fourth shot was fired from the grassy knoll, which was contradictory to the statement printed by the Warren Commission 16 years earlier. They concluded that John Kennedy was assassinated as the result of a conspiracy.…

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves” (Lincoln). Lincoln believed in equality for all, and was willing to die for his beliefs. On April 14, 1865, John Wilkes Booth, a Confederate sympathizer, shot and killed President Lincoln at Ford 's Theatre in Washington, D.C. The assassination of the 16th president may have seemed like a simple process, but Booth spent a prolonged amount of time plotting against Lincoln. He originally planned an attack of less drastic measures, but the plot quickly escalated into a lust for Lincolnʼs blood on his hands. Booth believed that the death of Lincoln and his immediate successors would…

"Yes! We're coming Abraham Lincoln. With curses loud and deep. That will haunt you in your walking, and disturb you in your sleep." This is a battle hymn sung by the Sons of Liberty which is the first Confederate run terrorist group Higham talks about. This hymn is a good example of the tone author Charles Higham sets for the book. Murdering Mr. Lincoln by Charles Higham, presents the reader with a factual, in-depth look at the story behind the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Higham leaves no stone unturned as he thoroughly explains the events that lead up to the death of Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was pushed into the light of the world in Harden County, Kentucky on the 12th day of February 1809. 1 Born into a farming family, little Abe was no stranger to heavy labor and hardships. Thomas Lincoln, Abraham’s father, moved the family farm once locally before going to Indiana in 1816.2 Thomas’s move of the family may be attributed to their disapproval of slavery (the Baptist church they attended broke away from the parent church on the issue of slavery), however, the fundamental reason was to purchase land with a secure title.3 The state of Indiana was granted secure titles for land plotted in accordance with the Northwest Ordinance. His mother, Nancy Hanks, died when he was nine years old from “milk sickness”, which was a rare occurrence even at the beginning of the 19th century.4 Abraham’s father encouraged him as a young child and man to work hard, which continued throughout his life. In the movie, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer, Abe defends the new nation against vampires using an axe made of silver…naturally. The idea of Lincoln using that as his weapon of choice was likely based on the common knowledge of his proficiency with the chopping tool. His work ethic, tremendous physical strength, and popularity made him a fun choice for such a ridiculous movie plot.…
