The plot interacted very well with the songs. The songs entwined with the plot so well, it is extremely hard to imagine this musical as just a play. The songs were placed the perfect amount of time apart so they did not feel sparse or crammed. The plot was just like the movie, but there were songs that were not in the movie, …show more content…
and that made the musical even more interesting and the plot more interesting. When there were tense moments, if there was a song, the song would be intense. If the mood was sad, then the song would be sad. The plot interacted very well with the music, and the songs helped develop the plot, and would sometimes tell the story instead of be used as a normal song. There were 20 song in this musical. The first was the Belle. It was a song about the Town that Belle, the main character lived in. It had use of french in the words. It was was in a major key, and had soft instrumental background that featured the woodwinds. The next song, No Matter What, was a duet between Maurice and Belle. It had a fluet group solo. It also featured violen. The song after that was Wolf Chase, it was in minor key. It also had very little singing and mostly instrumental. Me, the next song in the musical, was a short duet and was faster and had a lower instruments featured. Belle’s Reprise was fast had a very good percussion section and good brass background music. In the next scene, the next song was Is This Home. Is This Home was a faster song and it sounded sad and lonely, because in the plot, Belle is imprisoned by the Beast forever. Is This Home Reprise, was the following song that was sort of like Is This Home.
It was a long song and featured violin and piano. The song after that was Gaston. It was fast long and shifted moods from sad to happy. It was a very cool song that was very funny. Following Gaston was How Long …show more content…
Must This Go On.
That song had tenor vocals, clarinets and was very soft. Be Our Guest was the best song of the musical. It was fast and had great harmony. It had great vocals and had amazing acting. If I Can’t Love Her was slow, had bass vocals and was a sadder song. Something There featured flutes and had a combination of solo duets and harmony. It had a mournful tone and had low brass featured towards the end of the song. Human Again was about the people in the cursed castle hoping that they were going to be turned back into humans because of Belle. It was a very hopeful sounding song it had solos and the tempo slowed down from about 100 BPM to about 80 BPM and then speed back up. Maison Des Lunes had amazing percussion and great brass. It was fast and was a conversation within the song. Beauty and the Beast was not fast or slow. It had an amazing clarinet section. The vocals were unbelievable and it sounded perfect. That song sounded professional with the great vocals and great instrumental background. If I Can’t Love Her Reprise had a rich sound about it. It was a great solo that had a sad tone but was hopeful. A Change In Me had a medium tempo. It had a mood shift from sad to happy. The instrumental tone was good, but the brass could have some improvement on that song. Show
Me The Beast was fast angry and was passionate. Gaston sung it and he was just rejected by Belle, so he was angry and wanted to fight the Beast since Belle loved the Beast and not Gaston. Is This Home was sad in in the minor key. It had brass featured through the entire song. The Transformation/Finale was a very long song and the entire pit played wonderful during it. The Finale was Be Our Guest and featured the entire cast.
The costumes were extremely interesting and were very creative. Because in the cursed castle the people were part human part household item, the costumes were amazing to see and after the play when we could talk to the actors, it was cool to see how intricate the costumes were. For example, Mrs. Potts, who was turning into a teapot, looked like a tea pot, and she had cloth around her arms to make it look like she couldn't move her arms. Also, Lumare, who was turning into a candle had a gold costume and had hands that had fake fire on the hands. The sound went out a couple of times in the show but the actors kept on acting like nothing happened. The lights were great and worked perfectly. The stage set up was lighting quick and very creative.
Be My Guest was my favorite because of the lyrics, catchy music and great acting and costume. it gave me a happy impression and had great acting. The music was very good and I could see that the pit had practiced this music many times, and the actors have practised it even more times. The movement and dancing made it so much better. The vocals were great and the solos and harmony fit together perfectly. Gaston was wild funny, and had great. Choreography. The actors did many creative and complex movements. Gaston also told a story within the song itself. The last song that had superb musicianship and stood out to me was Beauty and the Beast. The actress who sung it was unbelievable. The sound was great and the instrumental background was great and played their complex parts great. This play could have been better if the sound didn't go out and if the actor who played the Beast had not just broken his leg and couldn’t put any weight on it. But even with a broken leg, the actor who played the Beast still did an amazing job. The actor couldn’t dance as well ha he could of because of his leg. Dancing was in a few scenes, so the actors did as best a job as possible to dance. The son went out about three times and it was annoying and we couldn’t hear what the actors said. It took about a minute to get the sound back on. Other than those two problems, the musical was great.
The most outstanding features of the performance was the singing and the acting. The singing was unbelievable and the acting was just as good. The performance was something that you would see professionals play and the music was just as good. I learned several musical techniques for percussion and how he moves from instrument very fast. I could apply these techniques in my performance and be a better percussionist. This musical was well worth the price of the ticket which was $8. I would definitely recommend this to a friend or a family member because of how great and professional this musical was. I usually get bored in musicals, but not this musical. This musical was the best I have ever seen.
