Locke’s article gave me more information about the movement and why it was started. He also points out that the creators of BLM were three African American women. He also brings awareness to several occasions where African American women have had to step up because of injustice towards the black community. According to Locke, “The Black Lives Matter campaign is the most recent example of African American women’s issues being ignored” (17). I can clearly see from this article that African Americans have been dealing with injustice way before Trayvon Martin, although I was taught that lesson in elementary school. This article shows that BLM was not the first group organized to fight against the justice system that our country has in place. I understand the purpose of BLM, to bring awareness to police brutality against blacks. I want to believe that the movement has brought change to not only the justice system but to black communities. I’m interested in finding more reasons why people disagree with the movement and also reasons why people agree with the movement. I want to know at the end of my research does the good outweigh the bad. I came across an article debating whether the movement should continue or not. I want to add to the debate that ending the movement will do no good. Does this movement encourage young people to do what they believe in? Is this moving starting riots or peaceful protest? Is this movement moving towards being successful like the Civil War Movement? How is the BLM movement similar to the Civil War movement? At the end of my research I want to have answers to every single one of these
