I see the care orientation being used most in my friendships. The connections that I make with friends tend to be very deep and I get to know their history and what makes them the person they are now. I treat my friends as a chosen family and build strong bonds. The care orientation also affects my relationship with my biological family. My interactions with them are affected by the fact that I have a long history with them. I know the context and that helps me figure out how I’m feeling and what my reactions should be. In the past, it has been apparent that old friends and I would not see the world the same. There have been times when I would reveal one of my truths to them they would see that isolated incident through a justice perspective and evaluate it for what it is; while I would expect them to still see me as a person that they have a history with. I wouldn’t understand their thought process for quite a while. This same thing has also affected how biological family and I would interact in certain scenarios. There have been times where a part of me would be in conflict with a rule that they have set up in their minds and they would separate that part of me from their idea of me. Then their evaluation of the situation wouldn’t include me or any other factors that may be at play, but would only include strict universal rules that they have set. That becomes hard to argue with as I can’t do anything to affect the scenario that they see. Thinking back now if I was able to name and call this out then it may have been easier to have an open
