The American Civil War was one of the blooding wars in the United States’ history. Historians estimate approximately seven hundred and fifty thousand deaths occurred during the Civil War. The war was between the Union states of the north and the Confederates for the south. They Confederates were fighting to break away from the Union and become an independent country. Another key issue was slavery that the two sides were fighting for. The Union was fighting for the freedom of African American slaves and have them have rights. The Confederates were fighting to keep African-American slaves classified as property. The Civil War ended with the Union victory and freedom for African Americans. Today, the history of the Civil War has been explained through primary documents, textbooks, and graphic novels to name a few. There is a difference between graphic novels and primary documents and textbooks. Primary documents and textbooks focus on specific facts and details compared graphic novels.
