The first Constitution was the Articles of Confederation, which was approved in 1781. There were many issues with it, but the main one was that the government had no money or way to get money. No one was getting paid, the army was deserting, and the debts weren’t getting paid. The government was becoming weak and so a new constitution was needed. The first compromise was the Connecticut compromise. The Connecticut compromise solved the problem of representation in congress. This also said that each state would have two members in the senate. No matter the size of the state. In the house of representatives, the number of representatives depended on the population in that state. The second compromise was the three-fifths compromise.
