The Conversation Between Jimmy And The Warden
“A Retrieved Reformation” open-ended questions and answers The conversation between Jimmy and the warden tells the reader that Jimmy is sarcastic and is probably a bad person. The reader can make this inference because it says that he was arrested for burglary and that’s a negative thing. On page 181 it states “Me?” said Jimmy in surprise. “Why, I never cracked a safe in my life…” oh, no” laughed the warden “of course not.” This conversation proves that they are speaking with sarcasm and that he has been caught cracking a safe. The reasons why Jimmy is retrieving his suitcase is because the suitcase holds his prized position, which is the tools for burglars, and this proves that Jimmy will return to his life of crime. Another reason he world pick a shoe line is because on page 181 it states “A guard came to the prison shoeline, where Jimmy Valentine was assiduously stitching uppers, and escorted him to the front office.” This quote tells the reader that Jimmy has past experience and it will be easier for him to work in the shoe business. On page 184 it states “Yes, there ought to be a good shoe line. There wasn’t an exclusive shoe line store in the place.” Jimmy also wants to stay near Annabel, and if he can set up a successful shoe line, then he will make a good living and also stay near …show more content…
On page 186 it states “He lounged about town is his quiet way until he found out what he wanted to know. From the drugstore across the street from Spencer’s shoe store, he got a good look at Ralph D. Spencer” This quote shows that Ben found out what he was looking for in Elmore. He will go on to find out more information about Jimmy.
Valentine knows that opening the safe could cause him problems, but he does it anyway because he loves Annabel and he has really changed. On page 188 it states “Can’t you do something, Ralph- try, won’t you?” He tries to open the case for Annabel because she asked him to try to do something. If he did not truly love Annabel, then he probably would not have opened the safe, but because of his love for Annabel, he risked his identity and helped open the safe

As a storm was approaching, Gatsby rowed out to warn him. Cody took an immediate liking to Jay Gatsby, as he introduced himself, and offered him a job as his personal assistant, which he accepted. Gatsby travelled all over the world with Cody. As they travelled to places like the West Indies and the Barbary Coast, Gatsby was living the lifestyle of the rich. One of Gatsby’s job was to look after Cody who was a heavy drinker and went on binges. Watching this, Gatsby made a decision that he would not become a drinker himself.
