This story was very odd but was a good book. The fiction of this story is tied to reality in a very unique way, that is very effective in making the story not feel very fantasy. This feature made the book truly more enjoyable. Other writing techniques like not having any foreshadowing. The book keeps you guessing until the very end. Even within the story parts that I had never seen coming, Like releasing the prince. Allowing Alix to run away and eventually return on curiosity.…

Although at times it was hard to follow what was exactly happening in the book. I felt like the book jumped around a lot because each chapter was a different event that happened throughout the year. I didn’t know when the events occurred so at times it was confusing. In addition, the book was older so it was hard to make connections with the book and my everyday life.…

It is the only book I have seen written in first person plural point of view. The book changes point of view in the last two chapters to first person singular. Her writing is also very primitive. Rand uses short and bare sentences. For example “ We stopped when we felt hunger. We saw birds in the tree branches, and flying from under our footsteps. We picked a stone and we sent it as an arrow at a bird. It fell before us. We made a fire, we cooked the bird, and we ate it, and no meal had ever tasted better to us” (78 Rand). But,the author's tone is nothing but bare. In the beginning of the book, the tone is extremely admissive, and Equality-72521 will not stop talking about his sins. The tone gradually changes to a more confident tone. Equality-72521 becomes more confident in himself, rejects the past and embraces self praise and…

When I opened the book I was expecting to be blown away by another bittersweet tale of love. I guess my expectations were too high because in all honesty I was disappointed. I got really frustrated in the beginning when they wouldn’t tell us the whole story and kept us guessing, and I like a mystery as much as the next girl but after a while it got tiring and I just wanted to know what was really going on. I dreaded especially the parts when Bennet kept changing his attitude towards Anna, like one time he liked her and another time he couldn’t stand her, those parts really got to me and I felt like throwing the book across the room because it just kept going round and round and not getting to the point. Of course that made sense later on because he was redoing the moment but those first few chapters were torture and it got me extremely confused at times.…
