The Democratic Style Analysis
First and foremost leadership is a calling, you must have a vision and be able to cast that vision. A great leader will always remember when things are going well to look out the window at other people, when things are going bad, look in the mirror (H. D. Crisp, personal communication, February 9, 2016). The text explains two (2) (Gomez-Mejia, Balkin, & Cardy) concepts related to leadership theory both a democratic style and an autocratic style; with the suggestion that today’s executive should participate in the democratic style theory for the day to day activities with the exception when the emergency situation should arise (Gomez-Mejia et al., 2012, p. 156).
The democratic style leadership is a team effort, the democratic style leader will make the final decision, and however he or she will seek input from the group, and allow other to contribute to the overall effort and of mission and goals of the department (Warner, 2014).
The autocratic style of leadership is opposite of a team effort, the leader will make literally all the decisions without regards for the opinions of others and the decision reflect the complete personality of the leader (Warner, 2014).

It appears that the crime rates speak for themselves showing a large decrease in the rate of serious crimes as well as murders in measuring them from 1990/2011 (Smith, 2012). The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is using a data driven approach in crime reduction and placing their resources in the right places at the right time that they feel crimes would be the most prevalent, the program is called Compstat. This type of program can be responsible for drops in the crime rates from five to fifteen percent (Hickey, 2015).     Leadership can be formal or informal. Formal leadership can depend on the personal skills of an individual or be reinforcing by authority and position. Informal leadership can be expressive in an individual who does not have a specified management role (Sullivan & Decker, 2009). Both roles are important to any organization that wants to form a good organizational culture and foundation. Sullivan & Decker (2009), address four leadership styles authoritarian, democratic, permissive, and bureaucratic, which have their strengths and weaknesses.     An autocratic leader is a person who has full control over a project and takes little advice from other team members. They often make decisions based on their own initiative and hardly accept anything others have to say.
