In cases whereby the mother thinks that she is unable of caring well for a baby due to her apparent situation, a safe abortion will solve the problem. Rape is traumatizing enough for many people and the idea of having that child brings more stress and bitterness. A safe abortion will save the life of the mother and greatly boost her self-confidence and recovery (Petchesky, 1986, p. 18).
Ethically, it is the superlative thing to do because in most cases the victims of rape who bear the rapist’s child are discriminated against and traumatized more. Sometimes an abortion is inevitable due to accidents and the fetus poses a risk to the mother, in this case safe abortion is recommended as a lifesaver to the mother.
Cancer and other diseases are life threatening to the pregnant mom, and because it is careless to let the mother die, an abortion is inevitable (Bailey, 2012, p. 14).
