The biggest cause that led to the Civil War was the differences between the North and South. The North was more industrialized while the South was more agricultural. The railroads helped them with communication and transportation of materials. If you look at a map of the railroads in operation in 1860, you will see that the North had many under operation, way more than the south (A). Nonetheless, the South, again, had more cotton production and slave density (who helped with labor work and such). (A) Another one of the biggest factors that led to the War was the issue of slavery. The two divided sides (North and South) had fought over this issue for years. The debates and quarrels of slavery led to many states seceding from the union. Dred Scott was an African America slave who wanted to get citizenship. So, he went through the American legal system and t basically ended up in Supreme Court. They denied his case, which raised a lot of tension. The Court then said that no African American can become a citizen and could not be “a part of the people.” They were not allowed to associate with the white race. Even if their ancestors had become free, was never a part of the people. They had no rights as a white man and were considered as property. The whites’ decisions were everything, which was unjust.
