The feasibility of cogon grass as a shoe shiner
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY An easy and practical way to make your shoes shinier with the use of alternative plant. A shoe polisher can be a wax or a cream that can be applied directly to shoes. Applying shoe polish will not only just make your shoes shine but it also protects your shoes from any liquid substance especially during rainy days. Shoe polish is usually flammable, can be toxic, and, if misused, can stain skin. It should be used in a well-ventilated area with care taken to protect clothes, carpet and furniture. After discussing, the researchers came up with the possibility of Oregano leaves (Oreganum vulgare) extracted as an alternative shoe polish. Oregano contains high amounts of two essential oils that are useful in processing leather hides. Thymol and carvacrol, also present in other herbs such as thyme, are strong antibacterial and anti-fungal agents used to treat finished leather products as well. While using oregano leaves themselves as a leather polish isn't common practice, doing so would produce a clear sheen--if you don't mind your leather smelling like an Italian salad.

Using Oregano leaves (Oreganum vulgare), the researchers would like to increase the production of shoe polish at lesser cost and with the same quality as the commercial one and making it useful as well as affordable to everyone.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM This research study was conducted to prove that Oregano leaves extract can also be an alternative shoe polish and to know its difference from other commercial shoe polish product in terms of:
a. Shininess of the shoes
b. Repellency of shoes from water

On the product side, Weatherpruf can use brand extension strategy. A brand extension extends a current name to new or modified products in new category. For example, Swatch spread from watches into telephones and Honda stretched its company name to cover different products such as its cars, motorcycles, marine engines and snowmobiles. As solid shoe waxes was already a brand product, Weatherpruf can extend to produce liquid polish. The reasons are: first, liquid shoe polishes offered a quick, clean method of improving shoe appearance and was particularly welcomed by parents as it helped to make scuffed and worn children's shoes look respectable again. Second, the market for liquid polishes is growing at 20% per year and it is expected to rise to 30% of this market next year. Third, entering a new product market will extend customer base. Finally, a liquid polish can be used on a wide variety of products. For instance, it can be used for the appearance of leather products beyond footwear such as chairs, sofas, briefcases, etc which may attract more customers. Weatherpruf can also increase the product diversity. For example, it can increase the colours of solid waxes not limited to blacks, light tan and dark tan in order to meet those customers who like solid waxes but don't want these 3 colours.…

The athletic footwear industry includes all producers of shoes designed in an athletic style or for an athletic use. We define the active footwear industry as an industry that manufactures shoes for active lifestyles. The primary focus of this analysis is on the United States market as it represents roughly 32% of the overall footwear market (PRWeb, 2012). While companies in this industry also produce athletic apparel and accessories, our primary focus will be on the company’s athletic footwear. The industry chain consists of an abundance of suppliers of raw materials that include rubber, cotton, foam and synthetic fibers followed by low-cost manufacturers located mainly in South East Asia, except for New Balance who manufactures its athletic shoes in the United States (IndexMundi). After completion of manufacturing, the shoes are distributed out to either brand specific stores, sports stores, department stores, or sold through online sales channels directly to the consumer. In order to create a more complete understanding of the athletic shoe industry, the below graph provides a visual of the market share breakdown by sales volume. However, the graph does not account for the recent merger between Adidas and Reebok, therefore, Adidas percentage should be 22% (Dolleschal, 2009).…
