ISR 3 The First Part Last by Angela Johnson is a book about a teenage boy named Bobby Morris a sixteen year old boy who has just found out on his birthday that his girlfriend Nia is pregnant with his child. After finding out this news a lot has changed in not just her life ,but also Bobbys. This isn’t your typical pregnancy story where the dad is not in the child's life it’s actually just the quite opposite. But now Nia has passed away from eclampsia Bobby has made the decision to keep the baby and step up to the plate and raise her on his own with the help of his parents and his helpful brother. Bobby doesn’t know what to do with his life trying to deal with school and he barely gets any sleep so dealing with that and everything else going
on with his life he doesn’t know what to do ,also a baby is a big deal especially being a teenager so he has to deal with a lot of things like a babysitter on the way to school , last he has to cope with the fact that his girlfriend is dead ,but he has a child that reminds her of him everyday. Bobby planned to graduate high school early ,but on his birthday the day Nia told him she was pregnant his whole world flipped upside down. Nia is now gone so Bobby has to take care of Feather himself , he still goes to school every morning but falls asleep in almost every one of his classes which is a struggle because he is still trying to graduate high school. So dealing with that and the baby is hard on him so he has to make the decision of school and/or the baby. Bobby has decided to keep the baby so now he has things he has to take care of the baby by himself which caused him to take on big responsibilities like getting Coco to babysit his baby. He also has to get a real job to buy the baby’s clothes and things for her. Bobby has never done thing like this in his life after all he is only sixteen. He has his mom and his dad to lead him through the way ,but his mom already said “i’m leading you Bobby , not doing it for you” (Johnson 94) that really opened Bobby’s eyes he realized then and there he has to grow up and take on life as a man. Bobby cries everyday knowing that his girlfriend and baby’s mom is gone forever he didn’t expect that at all he tries to cope with it , the fact that he loved Nia and planned to marry her one day and now all of that is gone and he has to deal with it and he has Feather to remind him everyday of her “damn girl you look just like your mom” (Johnson 63). Bobby is a strong individual overall and he knows what has to be done. He will do everything in his might to take care of her. Bobby has now decided to move away with his dad he thinks that is the best for feather and he knows she will have a happy life. On the way to his dad's he cries because he is leaving what he loves and that is home. Matinee is a word that means a performance in a theater or a showing of a movie that takes place in the daytime. We are going to a matinee today. “My mom took me and my brother to this cool matinee ,and I always wanted to show feather that movie.” (Johnson 87)
