The Giver Epilogue
For the first time, he heard something he knew to be music. He heard singing. He saw bright red and green lights shining in the distance. As he got closer he saw houses, many houses with green and red lights hanging on them. He knew of something like this; it was Christmas! He was starving, cold, and felt frostbitten, but he had to make it there. Gabe was crying, he couldn’t handle the cold. Jonas finally arrived at the village glown up with red and green lights. There were people standing by doors singing, “We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish a merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.”
Jonas saw many people, even kids playing in the snow. He ran up to a lady in a big brown fuzzy coat and he begged for food and warmth. She was a very nice

Jonas followed her into the nice warm home where there were many candles, a tree with decorations hanging from it, and cookies right by a fire in her home. Jonas did not understand why there was a fire in her house and a tree but he didn’t care because he was so hungry. The lady gave Gabe and Jonas warm soup. She also put a warm wet cloth on there frostbite. Jonas thanked her and then she asked “Where are you guys from and why were you in that terrible weather.”
Jonas said “We are from a community that keeps us from doing things so we ran away to find a new world.”
“Wow, we have many other places nearby that do the same things as us. So what’s your guys names.” The nice lady asked.
“Im Jonas and this is my sorta brother Gabe .” Jonas replied.
“Well I’m Nancy, so why did you guys leave your community?” Nancy said

She showed them their room that they would be sharing. Jonas was really happy to find a lovely person to care for him. Nancy showed them around their Neighborhood. It was Christmas the night Jonas and Gabe showed up so everyone was happy and getting presents. Nancy was so sweet she went and picked up two gifts for Jonas and Gabe. Jonas’s present was a sled just like he had in his dreams and gabe got a little fuzzy jacket to keep him warm. Jonas and Gabe were super pleased with the presents Nancy got them. Then days went on. Jonas struggled for a little bit because they did so many different things than his old community but after he started to fit in. He still got dreams every night and some were about the giver. Nancy put both Jonas and Gabe into school. Nancy was treating them like her own kids but maybe that’s because she never had any. In Nancy's community they got to pick their jobs and kids didn’t even have jobs yet. Jonas and Gabe were really happy. A year went by, Jonas and Gabe were happier than ever. Jonas still misses the giver and dreams about him everyday. Finally one night it was Christmas eve Jonas had a dream about the giver but it was different this time. The giver was by green and red lights in the snow, then Jonas realized the Giver was at Jonas’s house. The Giver said open the door Jonas. So Jonas went downstairs and opened the door.
