Difference is great, but can too much of it be unappealing? The Giver by Lois Lowry is a book that was made into a movie about a different and strange community. Jonas, the main character, is struggling because he finds out he is very different than most people after being selected for a very special job. The book and movie follow the same story line, but they are both different in a lot of ways. That’s kind of a broad subject but there are many little parts from the movie that were very different from the book. One part of his escape was getting Gabe. In the book, Gabe was already at the house and Jonas took him on his dad’s bike to get away. On the other hand, in the movie Jonas had to go to the place where the babies are kept. He had Fiona help him and he stole Gabe from the building. Another part of Jonas’s escape plan was his help from Fiona and how he got away. When he went into the building and he asked Fiona to come with him, which was confusing because it didn’t happen in the book. He also had Fiona pretend to be stealing a baby with people chasing her so that he could get away with Gabe. He got away and there were all these people searching for him so that he wouldn’t get away. In the book, he got away safe and sound with no one knowing about it except the Giver. It makes to movie more intense and it keeps you on the edge of your seat, but it shouldn’t have been such a big change. It’s hard to think of a reason that they would make such a big difference.
