The Greenleaf Expression: A Fictional Narrative
“It is so good of you to finally decide to grace us with your presence detective. How was your vacation with the rich and famous?” She was beating the hell out of that chalkboard of hers this morning. He had to check his ears twice to see if blood had started flowing. He had one of two choices at that moment and his first choice wasn’t a choice at all. She was standing in front of the window. He decided to follow his second choice and kept his mouth shut. “Hey partner, glad to see you back in one piece. So, how was it?” “How was what?” Stutter asked, utterly confused. “The Greenleaf Express. Did it make any stops or did she just run you over?” “What do we have lined up for us today?” Stutter asked, tightly growling. “You’re not going to answer me, are you?” “You’re …show more content…
“Now that you have shaken up my office, I shall see you at lunch as an apology. I know of a little deli over on Orchard and Delancy that serves a nice pastrami sandwich. Their polish sausages aren’t that bad either, that is if you are not standing next to a person eating one.” “I know the place, but I don’t think I’ll be able to…” “I’ll pick you up at twelve sharp.” “Now see here…,” he snarled. She hung up. “Stud, I could hear her voice from over here. And, to think you were asking me for pointers. But, if you would take some advice, I would check my backup, extra clips and the straps on my vest before lunch. How did I get wrapped up with these crazy women?” “Is she as rich as Greenleaf?” “I don’t think I know anyone, short of royalty, who have as much as these women.” “Then you have a bigger problem than even I could get myself out of and I’m a scared rabbit.” “How do you see

Charles Chesnut's work, "The Goophered Grapevine" deeply resonates with me, not only for its literary values, but also because it shows deep insight into the complexities of race, identity, and power dynamics in South America. Chesnut's own life experience as a mixed-race man navigating the harsh terrain of racism and discrimination undoubtedly informed his description of these subjects. As a reader, I was impressed by Chesnut's ability to create thought-provoking stories by combining elements of folklore and realism. Chesnut skillfully explores African-American culture and the ways it was used as a means of resistance and survival in the face of oppression through Uncle Julius's characteristics. Chesnut's exploration of the relationship between…

In Milkweed, the setting of the story is in Europe during World War 2. The setting affects the story, because since the story happens during a war the characters may act differently according to the situation. Moreover the time period affects why the story was written because Spinelli might have deep thoughts about the time and Spinelli used it in the sense that we already know some about that time. I think the author incorporates imagery through Stoptheif's dreams. For example on page 1," I am running. The first thing I remember. Running. I carry something, my arm curled around it, hugging it to my chest. Bread, of course."(Spinelli 1) Therefore, I better understand the story because I can see in my head what was happening and I do not have…
