The Happiness Advant, By Catherine Baab-Muguira Summary
According to, “Don’t do what you love for a career—do what makes you money,” Catherine Baab-Muguira concerns about what do we live for and how do we live for, to understand what the most important in life is, especially about career. She told that we must do the work that will make much money, to make life’s work out. The author knows that it’s easier to do your work to pursue your dreams that we usually called passion. It opens our minds to make us realize that a success is not accomplished by a minimum effort, but more than that. I agree with the author’s opinions that we must be rational, for career, money is crucial. But I believe that there are answers to the problem she mentions. In that article, Ms. Baab-Muguira explains that what someone …show more content…
Baab-Muguira explain such things about benefits from working for money first, such as you could solve unusual problem or the goal is obvious. But, try to think it differently, from another perspective. What about the happiness problem? Could it be solved by money? I just thought one solution that could solve this problem, do what you love. Of course, I mean to do it as a career. Because with that solution, you could reach both of happiness and money.
Besides, there are advantages if you work with passion, just like what Shawn Anchor, author of The Happiness Advantage, founded. “The brain works much better when a person is feeling positive. At those times, individuals tend to be more creative and better at solving problems.” (Shawn Anchor, 2011). Talking about work with happiness, Ms. Baab-Muguira states that the most important is working with a certain goal, in this problem, the money. Working with a clear objective, could make you know what you must do to accomplish it. But, what if we change the goal to be the happiness? This would make your performance’s work more productive and efficient, you would be happy and have the money for live. In fact, “only 30 percent of American employees feel engaged or inspired at their jobs and the clear majority of U.S. workers -- 70 percent -- are not reaching their full potential, a Gallup study concluded.” (CBS News, 2013, para. 1). So, that means doing a work about something that you understand, love, could make you reach your full potential at a career. That would make you realize the most important in career

That to make a living, we must follow the formula that is life. However, there is no formula. When did following your dreams and passions turn into a bad idea? In William Davies’ article “Don’t Make Personal Growth a Utilitarian Goal,” he states that today there is a great deal of emphasis on how happiness can shape global economies or successful business practices. William Davies seems to be against the pursuit of happiness as a societal goal, yet he admits that happy workers are more productive in the workplace because work becomes more pleasant. Individuals who are happy at work will be more productive, because if you love what you do you will work harder. Productivity is key in business and economics, and since economics is vital to society anything that positively affects productivity should be a clear goal for society.…

Nobody doubts that the economic parts are not important, but the most important thing is enjoying yourself. Doing something that pays a lot is not an obligation. For example, my dad thought he had to be a lawyer because it payed the bills, but he realized that it wasn’t what he loved to do. In addition, it has been said that doing what you like improves your abilities. Because is something you like to do, you feel encouraged on doing it, and that makes you want to be the best on it. Lastly, it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you do it right. For example, my aunt wanted to be a teacher and she worked all her life and tried to be better, now she is one of the best teachers of the country.…
