The Hobbit Geography
Geography, in the book, ¨The Hobbit¨ by J.R.R Tolkien, influences the hobbit society, because the geography of Middle Earth changed the hobbit’s shelter, how the hobbits live and the amount of connections the hobbit has.

Consequently, the geography has some influence over the hobbit’s shelter. Bilbo´s shelter, his home, is a nice and organized hole with every essential room on a single floor. (3) Moreover, this hole is located in the side of the Hill. (3) The location of Bilbo’s shelter represents the fear of the hobbits, and when the big people come along, and then the hobbit seeks safety in their comfortable and sweet home. Additionally, the map, in the book, shows the dangers throughout Middle Earth, including the spiders in the mountains

In The Hobbit, the main character Bilbo goes on many adventures on his quest to steal treasure from Smaug the dragon. During the story, Bilbo goes through many changes both spiritually and physically. One thing that changed him was being out in the world where there were dangerous things. Bilbo lives in the shire, in a very comfortable hole in the ground. Bilbo loves his routine and does not like change, he loves to keep everything in order and loves his comfort, Bilbo also hates adventures, “We don’t want any adventures here, thank you”. Hobbits are shy, self-absorbed little people, about half our height, and smaller than the bearded dwarves. There is little or no…

The Hobbit, by J.R.R Tolkien is a fantasy book set in the medieval ages. Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, embarks on an epic journey with Gandalf and his “party” to recover lost treasure in the lonely mountain guarded by a dragon named Smaug. After making their way past trolls, spiders and Gollum, they finally get to Smaug, then manage to steal the treasure (with they divide up). The two main ideas I found in this book were Bilbo’s heroism and the storyteller (narrator).I think that this book explores and shows the theme good vs evil.…

The Hobbit shares many of it's themes and several of its key qualities in characters with those established in previous stories or myths, starting with Bilbo Baggins. The aristocratic line present in the halfling’s family tree earns him the comfort and joy of the largest home with the most luxury in Bag End. Bilbo happens to be a Hobbit, which could be compared that of the most common physical description of Brownies with their small stature, brown curly hair, and docile nature. The childlike build of Hobbits gives an air of youth despite that the person may be middle aged, they are also a sheltered group that remains in their home’s reach and care not of adventures as noted by Bilbo;”I should think so- in these parts! We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late to dinner, I can’t see what anybody sees in them.” (Tolkien, page 6) However, later in the text Bilbo contradicts this statement and joins the party…

Geography affects many things including the economic resources a country has available to it, a country’s development and culture, and it even affects a country's technological and economic development. Resources were found in different countries all throughout the Industrial Revolution. This made trade really flourish because countries that didn’t have a particular goods or resource trade with the country that did and vice versa. However, the resources in different countries caused conflict and competition, which is another theme of history. Another example of geography was the resources that were being used as energy. Since different countries had access to different kinds of materials, each country developed their own power sources using what they had at hand. Some of these power sources were made using coal and even water, making a hydropower power…

The different environments impact the way of life for every species. Charles Darwin makes note in his Origin of Species that the Galapagos finches he found had different characteristics depending on the area that they lived in and food that was available. Humans are also highly affected by the surrounding physical environment. Just as the geography of each Greek polis shaped the way of life there, the region of Western Washington affects my hometown of Federal Way. The topography, climate, water resources, and natural resources all are elements that shape the history of my homeland.…

Geography has changed how human growth has occurred in many different ways. Geography being not only the shaping of the land but also including the climate and weather patterns affects human development in a lot more ways than most people know. Geography still affects us today when we decide to move or even the beliefs and culture we have and live in. People inhabiting the world have been affected by geography in the sense that humans have followed food sources and resources to discover new lands. Human migration and settlement set-up is changed by the available resources the land provides, the difficulty to scale the terrain, and the average temperatures of that area. Cultures and lifestyles of humans have been molded off of what that group…
