Stating that all men are created equal is a false statement but according to Thomas Jefferson, “blacks, whether originally a distinct race or made distinct by time and circumstance, are inferior to whites in the endowment both of body and mind (pg. 19).” When one of the founding fathers thinks this way it goes to show that the values in the Declaration of independence was written to only see fit to the white man at the time. The founding fathers justified this by stating the American society was built on slavery and that is how we have become a civilized and up and coming society is through their free labor, plus we provide them a better lifestyle then they will ever be able to provide …show more content…
I now will identify others for who they show me to be and not have certain expectations of how they might act or how different they may be just because or racial and cultural differences. I am in a mixed race relationship and I feel that I identify with him on a different level by learning about his culture, therefore it gives me a different aspect on the different lifestyles each race may be assimilated to. I identify as half Mexican/ Portuguese but I was born in America therefore I tend to have more American traditions rather than anything else. I feel being a mixed race person I identify less with people of a specific race because each side of my family is totally different. I do feel race is a social construction and therefore it causes many unnecessary issues when biologically we are all very similars as the HUMAN race. If we do not take the scientific evidence in consideration and take a step forward in abolishing racism then we will continue to fight the same battles we have been for
