Being an American means having the freedom of expression, the means of going places wherever and whenever. People here have the choice to go to any school, play a sport, go to church, and pursue their goals. Government is chosen “by the people, for the people,” as written in the Gettysburg Address. Americans have a say in how they live. Leaders come from elections, not appointments; therefore, all people have the opportunity to be heard and contribute to the way that the country runs.…
To be an American, means to have freedom over one’s own life. In this country of ours we are blessed to be able to express ourselves through freedom of speech without punishment. Because of our constitution, not only do we have the right to express our own individual beliefs with freedom of speech, but we are also able to practice our own religions, bear arms, and enforce the press, letting us receive news about the government itself. This is truly what it means to be an American. To be individual, and live your own life the way you choose…

In this day and age, to be American is something frequently mocked. With all the stereotypes, it makes us wonder what it truly means to be American. Does it mean to be fat and unhealthy? Greedy and demanding? Racist and Harsh? This is the brand we are all marked with as a whole nation, but I reject these labels. To be an American is something we should be proud of. By the definition I see, it is something to be proud of, even in the darkest and harshest of times when we do things we will never forgive; these are just mistakes that many make, and it shouldn't deter us from taking pride in morals this country holds.…
All Americans are guaranteed equal justice. They are allowed equal justice because America is a free country. Americans are inclined to freedom and with that freedom, have the ability to create infinite opportunities for themselves, which then allow them to find success, happiness, and prosperity. Americans can find these opportunities because they live in a meritocracy, and are provided with rights and freedoms that come from The Constitution of the United States of America. The Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments of the constitution, are a significant portion of rights that give Americans their freedom. Some of these rights include, the freedom of speech, religion, right to bare arms, the right to equal justice and right to own private property. They also to enjoy many other freedoms such as raising a family, traveling anywhere in the U.S., having the freedom to receive a free education, and work at any job for which a citizen can qualify. Through these freedoms Americans are able to pursue careers in anything that gratifies them, practice any religion they believe in, and being able to protect themselves from harm with the right to bare arms. This allows them the opportunity of living a life of happiness and success, all because they have the freedom to do so. Americans ability to embrace their freedom, use it for the better of the world, and to prosper in whatever they choose to pursue, is the meaning of what it means to be an American.…
“To be an American for me means freedom and justice. I also think being an American is a big responsibility.” This is the response of 10-year-old Neil from Wisconsin when asked the question, “What does it mean to be an American?” Neil is right; Americans have responsibilities that are imperative to living in America and helping the United States be prosperous and successful. If everyone were to learn and follow these obligations, America could be the utopia it was meant to be. These certain responsibilities are: teaching responsibility, participating in voting, and supporting and defending the Constitution.…

Living in America really shows the true meaning of freedom. America is one of the only countries known to give its citizens freedom to do what they want. The Amendments of the Constitution play a major role in what keeps America and its citizens free; without them our society would get nowhere, the amendments act as a guide to keep the citizens safe and fairly treated. They set up all our laws and let every citizen know and understand their rights as a human being. All it takes is one mistake or for you to mess up once and you can get all your freedom and rights taken away from you. Getting in trouble with the law can change everything in the blink of an eye. Once you get put in jail or prison you are then known as property. The government now owns you until you have served your time; the jail or prison can do what ever they want with you without anyone having a say in it, you are no longer considered a citizen. The amount of time you have to serve will depend on how bad the crime you did was. If it was bad enough you may get put in prison for life.…
The most important time in history for me was moving to a new country from my homeland, India. I could still remember that feeling I had experienced when my father had told me we were moving to America. I was devastated and enlightened at that time. I knew it was a bad idea right of the batch because I was already in 9th grade, I had all of my friends, family and my life planed. I could not bear the fact that I will no longer be able to see my friends and go to the same school.…
