Not only were the brothers earnest about their names, but they were earnest at trying to get the girls that interested them. Cecily Cardew and Gwendolen Fairfax were their love interests and they did their best to get them. Even when Lady Augusta Bracknell said that John Worthing couldn’t have her daughter, John Worthing persisted and even got kicked out of her presence. As you can see, both Alge and John are very earnest.
Even in the end of the movie they look through the history of their names in the book and John acts like his name is still Ernest. Lady Augusta Bracknell finds out and realizes she has been fooled. Even after she reveals to him that she knows he tricked her, he still wants to be known as Ernest. As you can see it is important to best earnest because it shows others that you will never give up. If you give up, it will look bad on your part and in some cases make you look like a rotten liar.
