The Importance Of Congressional Term Limits In Congress

Congressional term limits is a very controversial subject today. Many people, including our president Donald Trump, think that we need to “flush out” or get rid of the people who have been in congress for a long time. With this ambition, multiple problems arise. People who have a job should not just be pulled out because they have been in there too long. That is not a good enough reason in any case. The people working in congress have worked and worked very hard to become part of this high position. Donald Trump should open his eyes and realize what these people are doing not just for him, but for our country. Without these people working in congress our country would not be able to function. Therefore, Donald Trump should not be trying to “flush out” congressmen, but thank them for their service.
These elected people in congress should be valued for their experience especially if they have served there for a very long time. These people have worked there and know what they are doing. It would just be a longer process if we had to re-elect new people into congress.’’It takes more than a term or two to fully understand the intricacies of tax law dealt with by members of the House Ways and Means Committee’’( Kaufman). If the congressmen
have the experience then keep them in because we need them.There is no reason to kick them out for doing their job. The second argument comes from the people's point of view. Term limits limit the choice that people have towards their voting. Citizens should be able to vote whether or not they want to keep these people in office. The framers of our Constitution did not even include term limits in the Constitution. The Articles of Confederation contained term limits for delegates, but the Framers of our Constitution chose not to include term limits in the Constitution. Instead, it was decided that members of the House of Representatives, the body of Congress that directly represents the people, would be sent back to the people every two years for re-election.
People who support congressional term limits argue that people who are in congress too long tend to make more mistakes and do not do their job correctly. However, others disagree because people in congress have a crucial job. Therefore, Congressmen need to be ready for this very important task. Since these people have enough ‘’smarts’’ to take on this task, then they should be prepared not to make mistakes and always find ways to better our country.These are highly talented people we are talking about who have the intelligence to do what is best for this nation.
In conclusion to this argument, term limits are definitely not needed in Congress.
U.S. citizens should show the hardworking, talented, and experienced men and women who have served in congress for a great deal of time some respect. Achievement is earned by saying no to congressional term limits and keeping an open mind to the hard- working congressmen who are doing an extraordinary job. In the past few months, the news has been disturbing, especially from Donald Trump. Now that he is president this should worry American citizens. Furthermore, Congressmen will be kicked out and treated as if they haven’t done anything at all. We, the people, can only find out in the future what will become of the term limit policy in
congress.
