Fishing can be fun and challenging. There are many different streams, rivers, and lakes in Iowa. I am going to be focusing mainly on fish in streams and in rivers, as these are the areas in which most fish in Iowa are located.
What rivers are in Iowa? There are many different rivers in Iowa but the main ones include the Mississippi, Missouri, Iowa, And the Des Moines River. All of which have many streams that runoff from them. With these bodies comes some of the best freshwater fishing in America. Whether you are trying to catch Trout, Catfish, Walleye, or bass there is somewhere in Iowa for you.
Where Are The Fish? The state of Iowa is a diverse region, providing unique angling opportunities across the state(Iowa Fish Species). Not all the fish are in one area so you have to know what kind of fish you want. If you are looking for Trout you want to head up to the northeast corner of Iowa, almost into Wisconsin. around central Iowa as well.
Bait
Bait almost the most important part of fishing if you're not using the right bait you will never catch anything.
For trout you can use just about anything. Trout sit in a stream where the water is running and eat whatever comes down. You can use power bait, Velveeta cheese, even marshmallows. Trout also will bite on lures that don't require any bait at all, this is what I usually use. You may be surprised but for catfish the best bait is chicken liver. It depends though if you are wanting that big boy that everyone is going to be amazed buy then you definitely want to use chicken liver, but if you just want to catch something and are ok with a smaller guy then you will want to use crawfish. Bass fishing is easy because they just want to take lures, simple enough nothing fancy just a simple lure will do for a
bass. Best Way to Fish One of the biggest questions is do I need a boat? Usually I would say yes but in this instance it might be better not to. In Iowa most places you are going to fish are small little streams. If you are going to fish in a lake then I would say yes you would want a boat. For the main part the bodies of water you will be fish ing are rivers and small streams and do not require a boat.
Now you have all the information that you need to become the next top angler. With this advice your friends will be wondering how you know seamlessly everything there is to know about fishing in Iowa.
