The Importance Of Fishing In Iowa
Fishing
Fishing can be fun and challenging. There are many different streams, rivers, and lakes in Iowa. I am going to be focusing mainly on fish in streams and in rivers, as these are the areas in which most fish in Iowa are located.

What rivers are in Iowa? There are many different rivers in Iowa but the main ones include the Mississippi, Missouri, Iowa, And the Des Moines River. All of which have many streams that runoff from them. With these bodies comes some of the best freshwater fishing in America. Whether you are trying to catch Trout, Catfish, Walleye, or bass there is somewhere in Iowa for you.

Where Are The Fish? The state of Iowa is a diverse region, providing unique angling opportunities across the state(Iowa Fish Species). Not all the fish are in one area so you have to know what kind of fish you want. If you are looking for Trout you want to head up to the northeast corner of Iowa, almost into Wisconsin. There is primitive trout fishing anywhere in the northeast parts of Iowa. If you are looking for catfish there are many different areas in Iowa to catch them but the most common is the Mississippi River, but many catfish can be found

For trout you can use just about anything. Trout sit in a stream where the water is running and eat whatever comes down. You can use power bait, Velveeta cheese, even marshmallows. Trout also will bite on lures that don't require any bait at all, this is what I usually use. You may be surprised but for catfish the best bait is chicken liver. It depends though if you are wanting that big boy that everyone is going to be amazed buy then you definitely want to use chicken liver, but if you just want to catch something and are ok with a smaller guy then you will want to use crawfish. Bass fishing is easy because they just want to take lures, simple enough nothing fancy just a simple lure will do for a

The need for water causes the lakes water level to fluctuate throughout the year, causing numerous impacts on the fish and wildlife populations. The fish are mainly impacted because of the strain on spawning that changing water levels can cause (Coops et al 2003). However, the management of fish have caused a decrease in the Kokanee Salmon population, and thus the Lake Trout population as well. Large numbers of anglers frequent this lake because of the Kokanee Salmon and Lake Trout. This body of water was known for its impressive fishing for these two species of fish, but that is now threatened due to a decreasing salmon…

Everything from Pompano, Snook, Flounder, Lady Fish and Catfish, to the many different types of Snappers are caught easily throughout the day. We have found that in many places you can pull Snappers up one right after another just before the sun goes down. If you have your fire going they make an easy, delicious dinner on the grill, just bring a little aluminum foil and your all set! Another one of the great attractions to kayaking on the Indian River Lagoon is the abundance of wildlife in the area. It is not out of the ordinary to see a pod of dolphins swimming by. Each time they surface they blow air through their blow hole, which can be pretty startling if you weren't aware they were so close. It is quite the sight when they surface near you as you are paddling along, especially because you are at water level with them and they are such impressively large animals. In the winter time, which has perfect weather for kayaking in Florida, there a lot of manatee in the area too. Huge and awesome they look a little intimidating but they are very docile and curious, coming right up to your kayak to get a good look at you. There are also many sting rays in the area along with gigantic sea turtles, we have spotted some at least five foot across, with a head that is bigger than a…

It is the source of drinking water for over 3 million people who live along the river. Over 25 million people (10% of the US population) live within the Ohio River basin. It is regulated by a series of ten dams controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers. This helps provide many jobs to citizens in the US. The downfall to the dam system though is the negative effects it has on the river habitat. One example of this is the mussel species that live in the river. At one time there were 80 species of mussels living in the river, but today there are only 50 with 5 species in danger of becoming extinct. Even with the bad effects the river is starting to have it still is a great way to transport goods and services toward the west of the country. In murky waters or during night fishing, a good technique is to use brightly colored lures. On clear days, lures that are the most natural in appearance will yield the best results. The best type of lure is a matter of great debate, with some fisherman swearing by crankbaits, others using nothing but spoons, and yet others using surface lures. The general rule of thumb is that whichever lure you feel most comfortable using and have the best results with the majority of times is the best lure to…

During those months, the weather is cool enough and the bass typically stay in shallower water, making them easier to catch. It is possible to catch them during the hot, humid summer months, but you'll need your bait to go deeper into the lake. Expect to see other wildlife, including eagles, ospreys, alligators and maybe even deer or wild turkeys. If you'd like to make your entire outdoor experience even better, look to some of the many Florida campgrounds nearby.…
