I think that the benefits of having medical information electronically stored in an internet database can be many things. One of the major benefits would be if something happened to you or a loved one and the ambulance needs to pick them up, they can have access to your information. This can in turn help save your life. The information is already in the database in the event that you do not remember or cannot speak at the moment. In the event that you go to a hospital where your regular doctors are not around, they can access your information. This helps so you do not receive the wrong medication which can lead to serious injuries or even death. Having…
The system can Reduce and/ or eliminate the use of paper it can also allows all practitioners to see and update relevant patient data, reduces errors in transcription of paper records from one department to another and should speed the delivery of patient services. EMR technology can make storing and sharing information easier and more efficient not to mention convenient, it should help lessen and/or avoid duplication of testing, prescribing medicines that in combination might be dangerous or seems not to help, and the ability for anyone on the medical team to understand the approaches taken to a condition. Despite the growing literature on benefits of various EHR functionalities, some opponents have identified potential disadvantages associated with this technology. These include financial issues, changes in workflow, temporary loss of productivity associated with EHR adoption, privacy and security concerns, and several unintended…
EMRs allow all patient data to be contained in one area. This facilitates coordination of care among providers, as well as providing quick and easy access to patient information. (Esche, 2011)…
What I can see now in the United States, is a race between, EHR, EMR, and PHR. Electronic Medical Records or EMRs are the electronic versions of classic paper charts that are still used by some clinicians who are still not 100% compliant and use for diagnosis purposes. While Electronic Health Records or EHRs have a wider scoop of a mission, for primary doctors can follow their patient’s journey of care through internet connections, but also allowing other clinicians to have access to that information for the same purpose of care. And Personal Health Records or PHR that allows patients to keep their own medical records online and enable them to control everywhere without visiting a clinic. Wherever patients travel and need medical care, they can retrieve their own records using the Internet. Whatever their purpose, now that computer system is widely used in medical practices, than in paper-based system, everything that used to be handwritten by healthcare providers and staff, including medical biller and coder, is now entered into a computer, directly into EHRs. And with this system, EHRs can increase the efficiency of staff members in the practice and at the same time improve the quality of care for the patients. No more time spent looking for charts or missing information. Multiple staff members with appropriate access privileges can view and modify a single patient’s chart simultaneously. No one has to wait for a chart to mail or deliver…
EHR can be a benefit to providers and patients because it allows providers to access patient's medical records effectively. This is good for several reasons. Test results and other important information can be available at the time and place that a physician needs, allowing them to provide better care to their patients. It also prevents tests from being repeated and eliminates a lot of mistakes that can be caused by using paper filing systems. EHRs also allow providers from multiple areas to collaborate, and to share medical records in order to care for patients more effectively. Preauthorization can eliminate problems with insurance eligibility, avoiding delays in payment for doctors and unnecessary costs for patients. Patients also receive…
* Reduces “double charting” by auto-population of vital signs, lab results etc. to the patients flow sheet.…
Having this type of a software implemented into a health care organization also lets providers communicate better with other medical providers in other health care organization. I think one aspect that makes this type of a modality in regards to a patient’s confidentiality. By having this type of a software equipment any health care facility will lead to major health care savings, reduce medical errors, and improve health. A patients privacy been kept where no one can have or obtain any access makes it a very important part of any health care facility. Health care facilities or organization strives to keep all of their patients’ medical or health records more secure and confidentially; so that only those authorized to view or look at them at all times. To me, this makes having an electronic medical records system very much a valuable…
Bush established the Office of the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology in the Department of Health and Human Services to develop standards to varying EHRs applications. This initiative was made to make EHRs available to Americans by 2014 ("Electronic Health Records: History in The Making", 2013). The benefit of the EHRs is having patient information centralized and easily accessible. This will improve quality of care. EHRs will help providers reduce medical and prescribing errors by improving the accuracy and clarity of medication records and prescriptions. EHRs can increase efficiency by reducing redundant tests and services as well as delay in treatment. Thus, decreasing the cost of healthcare and increase patient…
The staff employed in a medical facility depends on many things to keep the quality of patient care in the positive and efficient. Physicians and nursing need the current and most recent information on a patient to ensure this. The EHR system makes this more possible because the rate for exchange of information increases with this system. It not only provides more accessibility to a patient records from the other facilities and departments that also carry their medical information, but can also ensure the patient will get the best care possible by keeping the staff up to date with their medical information using these coordinating methods. Some of these methods include information such as diagnostic reports where they can be uploaded into the system instantly once complete and offer a faster rate of review for the staff. Did I mention that this system also notifies the assisting staff when these reports are ready for review? Imagine how many live could be saved or changed with this? (Dickerson, Sensmeier, 2010).…
The advantages of EHR is that it provides accurate up-to-date and complete information about patients at the point of care. You can share patient information with other Physicians. EHR also enables safer, more reliable prescribing enhancing provincial, and security of patient data.…
We can improve the quality of telemedicine through this system. Then it is possible to reach into urban health facilities to the rural area people at minimum cost. EHR reduces the incidence of medical error by improving the accuracy and clarity of medical records. It can also help the doctor to take quicker decision to predict disease and make the health information available for all anytime anywhere, reducing duplication of tests and delay in treatment. Patients can be well informed to take better decisions. Moreover, long term preservation and storage of records are possible through EHR. As the sufficient number of doctor is not available in our country and doctors have intention to stay at the city rather that rural are. So, the most important aspect of our proposed EHR system is that it helps the government to improve overall quality of mass-healthcare. As government presently take the initiative to setup community clinic at the union level so if our EHR system is deploy to every community clinic then the overall situation of our present healthcare system will be significantly…
Eligible health care professionals and eligible hospitals must use certified EHR technology in order to achieve meaningful use and qualify for incentive payments. It is important in an EHR when working in the implementation process to involve, training, mock “go-live,” and pilot testing for system improvement. (HIE benefits)…
This will allow health care providers to research of a patient’s health background. Here are some of examples of using electronic medical records (Partners in Health, 2010):…
Electronic Health Records is the technology that I find most beneficial at work. It helps nurses, doctors and other healthcare providers to access patient information literally for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. EHR allows for a better coordinated care for all patients. The information can be transmitted immediately to other providers. EHR allows nurses and doctors to navigate through patients’ data that is far better than pulling charts on the cabinets and searching through pages of the chart to obtain one or two information. The beauty of EHR is that multiple healthcare providers can access the same records at the same time. There are some short comings about electronic health records such as when the system is off line, documentation…
Punctuality is a very important thing in life. Getting to work on time when you are supposed to, is punctuality. Showing up for a meeting on time is punctuality. Showing up for an appointment on time is punctuality. It is very important to make it on time for work, meetings, formations (ten minutes prior), and appointments. Appointments in this case, are very important to make it to on time. It is best to show up for appointments early. If you leave home early to get to your appointment, it is much less likely you will be held up and become late by traffic or any accidents you may come upon as you drive to your appointment. Missing appointments lets several people down. There are people expecting to see you, you are letting them down. There are people that need to be seen by the people you made an appointment with, you are letting them down by taking up valuable time from a dentist, doctor, optometrist, etc. when they could be there instead of you and having things they need taken care of. In the military, not showing up for an appointment is also letting down your squad leader, your unit, and the whole military organization. It can cost the Army a lot of money to schedule an appointment for you and then have you not show up for it. By missing an appointment, you also show that you lack discipline and responsibility. It does not look good to your leaders and makes it seem like you can not be trusted with simple tasks. Punctuality is a big part of impression and it is very important to make a good impression. When you lack punctuality, it sets a bad example to others, friends, family, as well as other soldiers. If you were not taught in civilian life or learned through having a job, in basic combat training in the military you are certainly taught to show up early and be on time for formations and that should carry over to other aspects of your life, such as appointments. Missing appointments takes away from everyone's very valuable time. There is not excuse for…
