Recommendations
One recommendation I had, would be to take the disgruntled therapist aside after the meeting instead of spending the time during the meeting to reprimand her. Another recommendation would have been to start the meeting going over the new treatment plans and spend the time left to discuss the inspection. The purpose of the meeting was to go over the new treatment plans and it was very important because the treatment teams were going to begin using them the next week.
Competencies
The first competency I
identified was Apply critical thinking to inform and communicate professional judgements. This was utilized by the therapist who came up with the new treatment plans. She stated the previous plans were no longer thorough or efficient, and policies and diagnoses had evolved since the plans last revisions. The plans were analyzed and then were revised to keep them up to date and effective. The second competency I identified was Identify as a professional social worker and conduct oneself accordingly. Throughout the meeting there was one therapist who tried to move the conversation along to get to the treatment plans. She was very interested in learning about the new plans since they are an integral part of her daily routine. While she was eager to be educated on the new plans, I could tell she was trying not to overstep and take over the role of the director.
Implications This meeting revealed what can happen when clear expectations and boundaries are not in place when in a work setting. I think it is great to have close relationships with your coworkers outside of work but if explicit boundaries are not set while in the work place, situations like the one I witnessed are bound to happen. Unclear boundaries will, not only, create an unprofessional environment but it can also hinder the ability of others to gain pertinent information to help further their practice.
