Mindfulness can be defined as a shift in one’s attention in such a way that through this slight shift, one’s entire world can transform from inside out, from being utterly absorbed in thoughts, work, mental events for hours to being focused in that moment. For example, experiencing an exquisite sunrise or sunset; experiencing taste of each bite of one’s favorite food or just being in nature. Mindfulness practice shows a decrease in stress and increment in emotional regulation. Emotional regulation is a major factor influenced by attachment styles, which also influences a person’s mental health to a large extent.
People throughout all stages of life need care, belonging and security (emotionally and financially); social relations
and bonds become important for fulfillment of these needs. However, the insecure attachments of self and of others draw them near loneliness as expectations and clinging underlies in it. The insecurity in attachments among adult intercepts trust, care and love which are essential for emotional and social life of individual especially maintaining relationships. Individuals face anxiety of losing something or someone, leading to over possessiveness towards whom they desire or avoiding things which one desires desperately in order to keep oneself away from the despair, thus, clinging to the negative thoughts, past memories, related emotions and persistent thinking of why or how it happened and what could have been done? Letting the negative vibes effect their present, very often leads to suffering also known as loneliness or Empty nest Syndrome in clinical terms, hampering social and emotional functioning and mental well being further.
