The LBGQT Community
The society is constantly changing; it makes progress, develops in some areas, and in some instances even moves backwards. Regardless of the constant fluctuating in society, some aspects remain the same. If you stray away from the norms of society you tend to be faced with challenges that you otherwise might not be faced with. With this in mind, the topic I would like to focus on is: How does being a part of the LBGQT community impact your everyday life. LBGQT is an initialism that represents lesbian, bisexual, gay, queer, and transgender. I have decided to study this topic by writing a traditional academic research paper. The texts I will work from are Zami A New Spelling of My Name by Audre Lorde and Conundrum by Jan Morris. I will need other materials in order to fluently write my paper. I have yet to find any other exact documents that I plan to use, however, I hope to narrow it down during the library visit or sooner. I hope to come across other academic essays, scholarly articles, or videos that …show more content…
This will be my target audience in order to perhaps educate, spread awareness, and allow those outside of the LBGQT community to be able to empathize with those within the community. In fact, this topic interests me, because I do not know much about the LBGQT community, and I would like to know more. Although I know some people who are part of the LBGQT community, I have never really taken the time to think about what does it mean to be a member of this community. I believe that being a part of the LBGQT has a definite impact on your life in the society, and my purpose is to find evidence that proves my claim. My claim and purpose will work together to create a well-developed research paper, that will then work to educate and inform my

In short, The Stonewall riots created dissent amongst the american people through media, as well as acting as a catalyst for definitive progress and finally, the riots represented an important cultural shift that eventually translated into the modern pride movement. However, regardless of the successes of the riots, they were still a collection of violent uprisings that plagued the LGBT community for years to come, and the post-Stonewall depictions of the riots often glossed over its roots within the transgender community with activists such as Sylvia Rae Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson. This is identifiable as a trend within American culture, through movies, tv and other media outlets. The greatest challenge moving forward will be to deconstruct the preconceived notions about the roots LGBT community and their fight for…

The LGBTQ community has developed and changed over the years, gradually becoming more inclusive of all types of sexual and gender identities. It brings a sense of belonging to a group of people and gives many that land in the span of the LGBTQ spectrum places that they know they can go to where they will be accepted. However the community that queer people have built around them and the acceptance of the diversity and complexity of how people identify themselves does not always transfer into other aspects of life. The LGBTQ spectrum is ever changing adding new identities all the time, however they are not always readily accepted by all. Gender and sexual fluidity being among the ones that have had to face their battles to have basic rights…

The reason I choose to write my research paper on Matthew Shepard is because gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender (GLBT) is a topic that I feel very strongly about. I believe that no matter whom you like and who you are should determine if you are accepted by society. The audience I am aiming for is people who don’t agree with gays, homosexuals, or who just aren’t familiar with the topic, mainly teenagers and young adults. I hope people realize what is going on in the world surrounding GLBT’s and what it is like to be on the other side in a deadly hate crime against people being themselves.…

Before this class I had never delved into this topic and certainly never in a classroom setting. I think the rawness of the documentary was definitely important because it left almost no room for questions. I think as society we have been able to learn to accept the LGB part of LBTQ pretty well but fail to understand and show a willingness to educate ourselves in the TQ part. We still perceive those last two as taboo and as willingness dwindles our minds suffer. As teachers we will encounter students that will fit all of those categories and like the other terms in this list we have an obligation to be educated in these terms. One of my interviewees for the video project said “if you are not going to make an effort to understand the current state of our world today you should not be a teacher” and I apply that quote to these terms as well.…

Being a gay male, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered in the LGBT community isn’t always easy in today’s society. For those who don’t know what LGBT stands for it stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered. In today’s society some people say gay people choose to be gay, personally I find that highly false and very stereotypical. I myself have always been gay since birth I certainly didn’t choose this for myself, which I wouldn’t change for the world. The day I came out was the first time I finally felt whole, and true to myself.…

I'd like to say that I have always been interested in Women's and Gender studies, that since an early age that my superiors had encouraged me to explore those aspects of my personality and to be open to others variations in gender, sexuality, and so forth. The truth is that for most of my life my parents had sheltered me from those realities of the world, and it wasn't until I started high school that I discovered facets of gender, sexuality, and injustice to which I had not been previously exposed. As I increased my online presence in those years, I began to discover the reality of gender and racial inequality, the LGBTQIA+ community, and other—often controversial—social institutions.…
