She takes every opportunity to fit in, but other people’s judgment on her makes it hard for her to except who she is as a person. “The salesgirl turns and walks out. Jennifer fells the tears coming, and this time she can’t stop them. She sits down on the little platform in front of the mirror and cries” (135). Jennifer has always been a strong-minded person, but when she steps out of her comfort zone to fit in and get humiliated it is hard to regain that confidence. Jennifer has always been judge behind her back, but never to her face. She knows she is ugly, but she just wanted to feel pretty for once. Just like all the other girls in her school. “It is freshman year all over again. Only this time Jennifer wouldn’t be blindsided. This time, she knows she’s the ugliest girl in the room” (330). Jennifer tried fitting in with her old friends only to embarrass herself again but this time at homecoming. She changed what she wants to fit in with then only to get rejected again. Jennifer may have stepped out of her comfort zone, but the reason why she did it was wrong. You shouldn’t have to change yourself to make friends. True friends will like never ask you to change and they will like you for who you are.
The list is a powerful thing that symbolizes their lives. They all changed in different ways based on their reaction to being on the list. Being on the list is not an easy task for the pretty girls, in fact it’s a lot of pressure, the ugly girls try to fix themselves or live up to the expectations. Once you are on the list you never are the same, because you are forced to change into someone you are not. Others are going to judge you weather you are on the list of not. So, you might as well be the best you that you want to be, and not the you someone else wants you to
