Alyss, the seven year old Princess of Wonderland, was protected by her innocence until her Aunt Redd took to extreme measures and acted upon rage to sabotage the Queendom. After Redd attacked the palace and royalty, Alyss traveled through the Pool of Tears, became an orphan, is betrayed, and has to live without the magic of her imagination. In the text, Beddor illustrates Alyss as being aged when he states, “ She was finally growing up-which indeed she was.” (Beddor 163). Her mom (Mrs. Liddell) was describing how Alice was finally starting to be more mature and grow up as a person. After reading a vast majority of “The Glass Castle,” I have personally enjoyed reading Parts II and III the most. Throughout these two sections of the memoir, Jeannette was faced with an uphill battle each and everyday scarred by homelessness, poverty and starvation that has come to define this novel. Furthermore, the struggle experienced in these two parts allowed for Jeannette to truly reflect on her life and take control of her own destiny to realize that she needed to escape this lifelong rut that her family has been engulfed in since the day she was born. As a result, she became determined and unstoppable in her quest to rid herself of difficult circumstances and developed the strong characteristics that she is widely renowned for today.…

The Looking Glass Wars written by Frank Beddor re-tells the story of Alice in Wonderland. Instead of Alice living in London and then traveling to Wonderland, Alice lives in Wonderland and arrives in London due to the invasion of her evil Aunt Redd. Eventually, Alice will return to Wonderland. Once back, she will take upon her full imaginative ability and rid Redd from the queendom and reclaiming her throne. Beddor did a great job changing the story, and more importantly the book becomes significant due to the addition of many meaningful themes. One of these themes is perseverance and is shown through the characters Alyss Heart, Hatter Madigan, and Dodge Anders.…

An important factor in a book is for the book to be able to connect to its readers. This is especially true when it comes to a book that is to be used by an English class. It’s crucial for students to be able to relate and/or connect because it’s what brings about good, strong arguments. The book A History of the World in Six Glasses introduces the world’s historical timeline from a different viewpoint. Specifically it showcased the world’s historical timeline through the lenses of the most popular and impacting drink that was consumed at a specific era. These drinks included beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. For History majors this might be a bit of a use but for an English class it just failed to introduce this theme to students…

Alice in wonderland is an adventurous book full of mystery, conflicts, and surprisingly allegory. Alice goes through trails, revelations, and at one point even gets accused of “being the wrong Alice.” In this story, Alice believes that she is dreaming and having a weird one at that, but in reality she is not really dreaming. Alice is really trying to find herself and with that she is portraying the conflicts in her life through the world of wonderland. To me wonderland is just a dimension of realization and a way for Alice to find the answers to the questions that she needs. But will Alice realize this in time or will she go on through her “dream” without any realization at all? In Alice in wonderland there are many cases of allegory. The cases the i will be pointing out and defining in my own words are “The Rabbit Hole”, “Size and Growth”, and “The Looking - Glass.” In this essay i will explain my theories and definitions of the allegory in Alice in Wonderland.…
