The Many Forms of Love: Analysis of Mitch Albom's The Five People You Meet in Heaven

Hutchison 5 Many people have different ways they feel about how love comes about. It can also take many forms. Love is an emotion of strong affection. This can be shown in many different ways. Albom writes, “People say they ‘find’ love, as if it were an object by a rock. But love takes many forms, and it is never the same for any man and woman. What people find then is a certain love.” Albom believes that you do not just find love. Love, in Albom’s eyes, is not just one certain kind that exists. Albom wants people who felt unimportant during their lives to realize how important they really are and how much they mattered. Also, he wants them to feel how much they were loves in so many ways by the people that were in their lives. Many people do not realize that they are loved by so many people. They just go about their lives like they are a “nobody” when in reality, they are so much more. I think Albom’s idea of love is one that you will never forget, like Eddie’s love for Marguerite in The Five People You Meet in Heaven”.. When she dies and all the years later, he never lost that love for her. It was still just as strong as when they were young and first met. After she passed away, he still had all the memories of when she was alive there to remind him. She would be in his heart forever. Albom feels that love is different for everyone. There is love that comes when a man and a woman are in love. Even then, love is different for everyone. There is not just one specific kind of love that goes for every couple or every family. Mitch Albom says, “Lost love is still love. It takes a different form, that’s all. You can’t see their smile or bring them food or tousle their hair or move them around a dance floor. But when those senses weaken another heightens. Memory becomes your partner. You nurture it. You hold it. You dance
Hutchison 6 with it”. He is saying that lost love and memories are different forms of love. That is just two of many different forms and kinds of love that you can show or receive. I agree in what Albom is saying and memories and lost love are not even close to all the forms of love that are in this world. When Albom says that you do not just find love like it is “an object by a rock”, I agree completely with that. You do not just search for it. Love just happens. You can’t explain how it feels or how it came to you. It just does. Only your heart can make you feel it.
Just saying “I love you” is not the only way to show you love someone. Your actions also show it. In my opinion, your actions show it better than your words do. Learning how to love is one of the most important things you will ever do in your life. Without love, life would be pointless. You would not be doing anything for the love of it, such as sports, hobbies, your job, and so on. If you open up your heart and let love in, it is a special feeling that only you can feel. When you can still have strong affection and emotion for someone even though they are far from perfect, that is love. Love has no boundaries. Love is when you can accept people for who they really are. Love has many different definitions people use. Love can refer to different types of feelings. For example, how you feel towards a friend. Some other examples are when you have a pleasure such as “I love animals” or a romantic love like your husband or wife. Loving your family is a form. Love is also a feeling of personal attachment. Showing you love someone comes from the heart. You cannot be forced to do something to show you love them or it is not really love.

In my eyes and Albom’s eyes, our opinion on love is pretty much the same. We both agree that there are many different ways love comes into your life. There are also many ways love leaves. It is just one of those things that only your heart can feel.
