The Maze Runner follows a group of teenage boys trying to survive in a maze when all of a sudden girl appears and starts changing everything. They don’t know who put them in there, but, throughout the course of the movie, the group grows closer and closer to finding out. The bare bones of the plot are the only things that are similar to the book.
The writers of The Maze Runner completely adulterated the book. Components of the book were completely taken out or altered in some way. The main example of this is a detail between the Thomas, played by Dylan O’Brien, and Teresa, played by Kaya Scodelario. In the book, the characters have the ability to talk to each other telepathically. The movie writers, however, looked over this characteristic and left it out. Tidbits that seem like a big deal in the book are completely left out in the movie. Overall, I think that this was a failed book to movie adaption.

This key component of film should have been more effectively used. The light in The Maze Runner could have been used to make the scene lighter or darker. Certain scenes were so dark that the viewer wasn’t allowed to see what was going on. Opposingly, in a specific scene, a glader notices something as the sun starts to set and the other gladers all rush over to go see what it is. The good majority of them have torches in an attempt to illuminate the area, but the region is already well lit because the sun is not all the way down.
