The Most Dangerous Game (Sequel) Rainsford jolted awake for the ninth time that night, breathing rapidly as his eyes darted to every crevice of his room. It had become a commonplace routine for him to wake up in such a manner, but today seemed different than it was yesterday. Once he finally calmed down, Rainsford glanced at the calendar, July 31, 1928. “ Why have I been awoken again and again?” Rainsford muttered to himself as he ran his fingers through his messy locks of hair.…

A.One messages the novel communicates to is no matter who you are or where you come from you can accomplish anything. Another message in this story is to never give up, because if Mariatu had given up after the attack who knows where'd she be. I think the author, Mariatu and Susan include characters such as the man who gave her a mango to eat because at the end it all ties down to the story and her journey. The author had also used settings such as the countries Mariatu went to in the stories because it made a big change in the story.…

The princess in “The Lady or the Tiger” struggles when determining the youth’s fate either consisting of death or marriage to another beautiful lady as she contemplates “Which [door to open. The answer is] as plain to her as if [the youth] shouted it from where he stood. There was not an instant to be lost. The question [of which door to open] was asked in a flash; it must be answered in another” (Stockton 302). The princess is forced to decide the youth’s fate in a split second. The short amount of time that is taken for her to make her decision suggests that her emotions may have overruled reason and could lead to her regretting her decision later in life. In a single second, lives could be drastically changed. Up until the last moment, the youth, that the princess had loved, believes that she will spare him; he has a blind faith in the princess and trusts in her choices. The king’s daughter’s heart is torn during this point of decision. She must decide whether she would prefer to see the youth dead or with the lady whom she…

Marc Bekoff once said, “These enthusiasts often like to hang signs that say ‘Gone Fishin’’ or ‘Gone Huntin’’. But what these slogans really mean is ‘Gone Killing’”. General Zaroff gives him food and clothes. But, then Rainsford finds out about General Zaroff’s game and wants to leave the island immediately and instead of letting him go, the general wants to hunt Rainsford. Richard Connell, the author of, "The Most Dangerous Game," depicts the theme, the most dangerous things are often well hidden; you never fully know how dangerous something is until it is right in your face and the hints are all out. Mr. Zaroff is the perfect example of how the most dangerous things are well hidden; in the article he says, "' I had to invent a new animal to hunt.'...'...It must have courage, cunning, and above all it must be able to reason.'" this shows that the most dangerous things are often well hidden because the animal he is talking about is humans; we are the the smartest species in the world. General Zaroff is hinting at the fact that he is hunting humans, Mr. Rainsford is not quite picking up on the hint…

Everyone in this world is influenced by someone or something. Your friends, parents, teachers, and even technology are only a few things that make you the person you are today. So when Rainsford stated that, "The world is made up of two classes: The hunters and the huntees. I agree with Rainsford; everyone is forced or influenced to do things. One of the critical themes in the short story is irony, which plays a major role in the story. Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff are very alike in some ways. Both want to have the upper hand in an argument or situation. In the beginning of “The Most Dangerous Game”, Zaroff has the upper hand as he knows the terrain and has a threatening bodyguard. He allowed Rainsford to eat and stay at his château after he fell overboard. At the end of the story, Rainsford has the upper hand as he won “the game”, surprises Zaroff, and forces Zaroff to play the game he forced himself (Rainsford) to play.…
