During this period everybody believed that Heaven, Hell and God existed as this is what they were taught from a young age by the principle people working within the Church. But it also provided a sense of hope to people that were struggling as they believed god was there listening to their prayers and that help would come to those who wait.
There were also some negative effects of the control of the Catholic church had at this time. It took control of the citizens lives not just mentally but also physically.
