The Other Moore Reflection
“The Other Wes Moore” is a true story, written by Wes Moore about how he and another kid with the same name ended up with two extremely different fates. Both Wes`s lived in the same area, grew up without fathers, had a difficult childhood and became involved with drugs and other illegal activity. When Wes found out of the other Wes he began to visit him. Wes Moore wrote this script because he was intrigued how similar their lives were and realized that their fortunes could’ve been the same. Their mothers raised them each differently and influenced their lives extremely. The Other Wes admired his elder brother Tony and even though Tony tried to keep Wes off the streets, he didn’t listen and his mother didn’t want to think that he was breaking down the same route as his comrade. Wes`s mother, Joy and grandparents sent him to military school even though they were struggling financially. This story is about how the people in your life and the choices you make have a huge impact on how your future is going to be. …show more content…
Sometimes I would cry, sometimes I would laugh and others I would get upset with the decisions that the Wes`s and the people around them made. One of the biggest issues in this book that is really important to me was the educational system in this book in my opinion the teachers really could’ve made a difference in both of those kids lives because as a student who believes in education I believe my previous teachers have made a huge impact in my life. One of my favorite parts in the book is when Wes (the author) is getting ready to jump out of the plane, he contemplates his life and the person he wants to become and then starts to think of all of the people that impacted his life and that caused him to realize that he wants to stay at Valley Forge and attend junior college. I like this part because it shows how much he grew and he is recognizing how much the people in his life have impacted

A few main things that i really liked about this book was once Danny got to the camp he was not favored because of who his dad was, in fact it made it even. Harder on him due to the coach he drew as Ed Powers. Page 53 explains why the coach was so hard on Danny as he was living in the past and made up the story of Richie Walker backing out of his offer last minute. I liked that in the book as it lasted all summer and made Danny prove himself at the camp and was not just a free easy pass as his dad was Richie Walker. One other thing that I really like and showed what kind of a kid Danny really was when he stayed in the younger kids group and his room mate Zach was having a ruff time and Danny was there for him and got him to end up liking and staying at camp instead of going home. I didn't really have any dislikes about this book as it included many other…

I enjoyed how easily I could lose myself in the novel; after what I thought was only minutes turned out to be hours and before I knew it, it was early the next morning and all I wanted to do was keep reading. Personally, reading this novel was the exact definition of being swept away and taken into it because most times I completely left reality and if it was the middle of the day in the novel, I would truly believe it was the middle of the day in reality! I felt every moment. Except usually, when Willow felt sadness, I was angry mostly from a lack of understanding of why she continued to live through societal views and while talking to my culturally and ethnically diverse groupmates at CHS some didn’t feel angry at all, some felt satisfaction or even pride, and that just goes to show that this novel is more revolutionary than most can see. A lot of people see this as just another story, but it can unite a wide range of people and create conflict and discussion, but most of all it creates knowledge, certainly more knowledge than we can consciously verify. I would not change a single punctuation mark at this time.…

While the environments that both boys grew up in were similar, there are key differences that influenced each Wes Moore into making different decisions later in their lives. The book begins with a discussion of their fathers; the author Wes Moore, although for a short time in his life, had a loving father who was involved and active. The other Wes Moore, however, had an alcoholic father who was absent his entire life, not bothering to get involved with his son. The second Wes Moore, unlike the author of this novel, never had a father figure and the only male role model he had was his elder brother who eventually dropped out of school to sell drugs. Both boys were also raised by their mothers but were raised in entirely different matters. Joy was a hardworking, strong and independent woman who had an education and grew up in a disciplined and structured environment. Joy was determined to provide the same for her three children, going as far as moving in with her parents and working multiple jobs to allow her children to go to private school instead of the failing public schools of the Bronx. Joy and Wes’ grandparents were strict and provided a stable household with high expectations and respect for rules and severe punishments for breaking those rules. For example, when Wes started to fail in school and did not improve his grades or his behavior his mother sent him to military school. Joy was a strict disciplinarian. Mary, the mother of the other Wes Moore, was not a strict disciplinarian and did not grow up in a stable environment. Mary’s mother died when she…

Personally, the book taught me a lot about how people deal with situations when under pressure, people’s need for power and how easy it really if for a war to break out and I found that in my mind I could easily link what was going on in the book, with recent events I had heard about. It also let me think about similar situations that I had been in and how my reactions compared to the characters in the book.…

Sometimes life gets tough and gives us obstacles and challenges just to see how we overcome them. It only takes one mistake for someone’s life to be turned upside down. Watching people go through hardships and life challenges helps us get on the right path and succeed. The book The Other Wes Moore written by Wes Moore himself, is based on real life challenges that two boys ironically with the same name and hometown were faced with and how their decisions on overcoming them lead them to two completely different places. One living free and being able to experience things and the other living unfortunately behind bars. Wes Moore uses the rhetorical appeals ethos, logos, and pathos to engage the readers attention on how two boys with so many similarities can grow up and live two completely opposite lives.…

    Mr. Falker's Trisha

I liked this book for multiple reasons. First, I enjoyed how this book was paced. The author could have spent less time on the students bullying Trisha and more time on Mr. Falker teaching her how to read. However, she chose not to which helps the reader really feel how Trisha feels when the students bully her and makes Mr. Falker’s actions so much more meaningful. Secondly, this book pushes readers to think about tough issues; in this book Trisha is being bullied. Students can think about how Trisha felt, and about Eric’s, the bully’s, actions to help them understand that bullying is not nice and is not ok to do to other people. Additionally, it shows that it is ok if you take longer to learn to read or solve problems in math, everyone can…

First, I like books in journal form but I also like to know what all the characters are thinking, in this book you have both. He is one of my new favorite authors and is definitely extremely talented. This book was pretty clear throughout the whole story. Nothing was difficult to read or impossible to understand. It moved swiftly which made it an easy read, and kept me interested the whole time. You stay in the real world when reading this book, it faces real life situations teenagers go through. It reflected reality well because anyone could face some of the situations these teenagers faced. Peer pressure, moving to a new school, tragedy and school in general. It truly displayed realistic situations that readers could relate…

My emotions changed by making me think differently about how bad discrimination can be and how the effects of it can be devastating. This novel really made me think about how bad discrimination can be especially when it involves senseless slaughter and mass murder.
