People sometimes do not know how precious life is until something happens.
In the story The Pod by Maureen Crane Wartski, the main character Jesse became crippled and cannot play soccer. Therefore, he lost his soccer scholarship which made him feel like life is not worth living. Throughout the story, his behavior towards his cousin changes and his attitude of self-pity changes too.
In the beginning of the story, Jesse felt self-pitiful to himself that he ignores his family including his cousin Pete.
