In the story The Pod by Maureen Crane Wartski, the main character Jesse became crippled and cannot play soccer. Therefore, he lost his soccer scholarship which made him feel like life is not worth living. Throughout the story, his behavior towards his cousin changes and his attitude of self-pity changes too.
