The Pros And Cons Of Community College
After reading these articles it would have a person strongly thinking that education should be free. However, there are those like me that believe education should not be free. Thousands of students are accepted into college either because of their academic skills or for their talent skills. These students earn their way into college, so why should other students get their entrance into college “handed” to them? That is very unfair to those who fight hard every day to earn their way. In article one NYT: Free College it discusses that in fact, President Obama’s plan for students to go to Community College for free. Although they discuss the pros of this plan they do not seem to point out the cons, such as the cost of this plan or who would
pay for it. The article also states “The proposal would cover half-time and full-time students who maintain a 2.5 grade point average – about a C-plus – and who still “make steady progress toward completing a program” (Davis and Lewin paragraph 6). In this piece of the article they are making it as though only certain students can enter college so those who are not meeting these standards are left out. Why not leave the standards and requirements as it make students earn their place instead of just giving it to them? Article two “How Obama’s Tuition Free Community College Plan Would Affect One State” they discuss what changes would to be made for this plan to work. “For the President’s proposal to work, necessary provisions will have to be made to the current welfare policies” (Fernandez paragraph 6). In this article the cons are obviously noticed and the Arthur is stating what needs to be changed in order for this plan to work. This plan will not work if there are noticeable flaws.
