The Pros And Cons Of The Death Penalty
When we think of the death penalty, we think about crimes committed that will result in long, drawn out court cases, a long time on death row. Cases that calls for plenty of money to be spent on lawyers, crime experts, judges and juries, witnesses and long days and nights of court preparations This brings us to the question as to if we believe in the death penalty, or under what circumstances would it be acceptable. The death penalty is capital punishment for crimes supposedly committed by the suspects. Sometimes, it is hard to believe that it is 2014 and we in the United States are still using different forms of the death penalty. People feel if you commit crimes such as rape, murder of the elderly, murder of a child, or beating of a woman to the edge of her life. There are also times when the mistreatment of a paralyzed person and slaughter of innocent people are causes for the death penalty.
There are heated debates in the Unites States now about giving the death penalty and later scientific evidence proves that the person was innocent of the crime. It is no consolation to the family of the suspect who was executed. The truth now will not bring him/her back and the fact that no amount of money can substitute for a life taken.
The Untied States still use some of the most barbaric methods in the world. We still use the electric chair, lethal injections, and the gas chamber to execute inmates sentenced to death. The most horrific one of them all too many people is the electric chair. Regardless of the ways they carried out the death penalty now, it is very different from methods used in earlier days. Some of these methods were hanging, burning them at the stake, putting them in hot boiling oil, or using the gasoline. According to earlier courts, these practices are considered cruel and inhumane punishments. Therefore, in many states the death penalty is banned or outlaw. In the United States, a lot majority of the citizens consider themselves Christians. Their biblical teaching tells them “Thou shall not kill”. This is one of the reasons that many Americans disagree with the death penalty. As Christians, we do not believe in “an eye for an eye”. With them disagreeing, we have been able to change the laws in many states and find other methods of
