The Rape Of Europa Reaction

“The Rape of Europa Reaction” In the film The Rape of Europa showed a despicable display of hatred between the Jewish communities. During the war in 1939 Europe’s most treasured and valuable artwork were stolen by the Nazis. Some artwork was destroyed, lost and others ended up in a museum. However, the monuments men were a courageous group. They helped to recover as much of the culture of Europe (Rich Berge). Rose Valland the French art historian, was a hero in my opinion. Someone had to be the voice for the people who rightfully owned the artwork. The Nazis had no justifiable right to take such valuable prize possessions. If she didn’t keep records of the artworks who would know that they even existed. In addition, keeping the records is what helped them to recover and save a good majority of the artwork (Rich Berge).

It’s been an important part of our permanent exhibit. But I also saw the larger, moral responsibility. We can’t make amends for the millions of lives that were taken, but we can do something simple, return something stolen and confer a little humanity back on all of us”. His quote exudes a complete compassion and a tremendous respect the people that lost their lives. In addition, I’m sure he felt a moral obligation to return the artwork. Although returning the paintings made him sad he knew the rightful owner was Claude Delibes (Rich Berge). Throughout history the museum had a substantial amount of people that came to view the paintings. Quite naturally the museum had a lot to lose when the paintings were returned. However, the family had so much to gain when they were returned. Memories are worth more than any amount of money. The daughter I’m sure was ecstatic when they returned. Every time she gazes at the paintings she will be able to have precious memories of her father (Rich

For the charitable contribution painting, we feel that the painting may be overvalued. Was there an expert that actually came out and viewed the painting to give a professional and honest value of $20,000? Where is the proof? Can we go based on your word? If I said, the Mona Lisa painting was $1; would you believe that in fact the painting is valued at $1? What record do you have to provide to us that the painting is valued at $20,000?…

But if I step back and try to look at it logically I can definitely see why this caused so much controversy and 26 years later we are still talking about it and writing papers about the case. Yes, a committee backed by the federal government did commission this piece for a federal plaza and yes, the artist chosen believed that this sculpture would be there forever like the Statue of Liberty for instance. But most people did not understand the symbolism of this piece, it’s just a big dark, metal wall, what is its significance, what is its meaning? The average public would not understand the meaning of the piece, should that matter? I guess my thought is just because the government-funded it doesn’t mean we should be stuck with it forever. Our government funds a lot of things that we as Americans don’t agree with and we should have a say in some of the…

There was one sculpture in particular that touched my heart. That was in the center of the memorial, where a hand that in my opinion portrayed G-d and many sad, hollow looking people that symbolized the Jews struggling to reach that hand. Although some of those people couldn't get on that hand, due to lack of room, they still had hope and the will to live. Another sculpture that was very heartbreaking, was that of a mother protecting her children from the Nazis. On top of that sculpture was one of Anne Frank’s quotes saying “....then in spite of everything, I still believe that people are at good at heart”, meaning that there was still hope that humans are good at heart, even the Nazis.…

“Art, in itself, is an attempt to bring out order in chaos”. This can not happen when the chaos itself is destroying precious works of art. The Rape of Europa, is a documentary during the time of Nazi Germany; describing the atrocities the nazis are committing, from destroying works of art to auctioning to fund their cause. Adolf Hitler, has committed numerous crimes against humanity, but he has also committed a crime that can never be undone. The crime that he is guilty of is, destroying works of art that represents cultures from different areas and time periods. Furthermore, the works of art that were destroyed during this time will never be seen ever again; the Nazis have robbed future generations chance for knowledge of these paintings.…

Many people value art becuase it can inform us, we value it if it is true to nature or to life. Platos imitation theory applies here, that all artists are merely copying the form so it can not be good art, but all perceptual experience involves interpretation, so there is nothing to copy. Great historical paintings can give us visual knowledge of certain points in time, but limitations with this is that anything can inform us without being art, a book can inform us but isn't art. This ability to inform us is not what make sus appreciate it but the artistic qualities it…

Art itself is priceless, and according to Source D, “commercialism has no place within the scope of museum activities.” If it did, a museum would not be a site for valuable art, but a gift shop with overpriced items that would be stowed away to private homes never to be shared again. This a despicable idea for money should not be the defining value that employees of museums should consider. Instead, these people who bear the responsibility of properly showcasing works of art should, must consider the educational and enriching values pieces of art can provide for its audience. Whether it be a mere passer by, curious about cultures, or someone who would love to learn just a little bit more about their heritage. Artifacts hold a history the should be shared, not hidden away in a private collection. It is the job of the employees who handle these artifacts to become involved with the art in order to help project the enlightening aspects artwork can truly…

In our world people forget what you told them and people forget an experience that they had in the past, but people never forgot how they felt and how an object of significance made them feel. Furthermore, Art and it’s culture has had a great impact on the people throughout history. A painting has its significance and it was created with an intention that only the artist knows. The people who view the painting have a feeling when they see it, it connects them to their own version of fantasy and makes them feel a certain way. Similarly, The Column of Trajan was an ancient ruins, which was built in a victory by the Roman Army.…

I think that artist don’t have to create so many beautiful pieces to make us remember it but to make it a history instead. Making their great pieces into history can give other generations some ideas of what had happened in the past and they should stop and observe every event that might be occurring on the painting. Pieces of work that artist make should be for our enjoyment and to remember what happened in the past and in this era. An example would be Altar to the Chases High School, 1987. (pg.59)…

There is a high impact on health care cost due to chronic diseases. This is mainly due to the lowering of the mortality rate of chronic diseases. In the past there were less people living with these types of diseases or surviving them. There is also an increase in the diagnosis of these types of diseases. With the newer technologies they are able to diagnose more patients properly with these diseases as well as diagnose them early enough to treat them or cure them if possible. Here is some information I found concerning a couple of these chronic diseases:…

The sadness and emotion that Byrd express through his creation of art was beautifully done. The lines, shades and colors of these two paintings have communicated to me in a way where I can feel the sorrow, loneliness, suffer and struggle that the veterans had been through in the isolation of institution's hallway. When I looked at The Cave, all I could see was that living in the hospital is like living in the prison. It is like being trapped in your own minds because there is no way for you to get out of this place, and nowhere to escape from the sorrows that are trying to eat you alive. Thus, you lose the energy you have, and dark clouds forming upon your head like you lost against the world and given up your existent as a person.…
