That is the stage of life when people are more self-absorbed and have to figure out their way in life. It proves difficult for many and can contribute to the trait.
In conclusion, there are a lot of different things that contribute to both narcissism as a trait and Narcissistic Personality disorder. It is wrong to stereotype anyone with either of these as no one individual has it the exact same way. It is a very real thing that needs more attention. A lot of people do not even realize that they have it but there are ways to deal with it. It is helpful to have an understanding of subjects such as this in order to have a better understanding of the world around
