The Relationship Between 'Tell' And The Spirit
"Behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" (Matt 19:16) That is the question that many have asked. It doesn't matter when or where, there still is that questioning soul that wants to know. And at one point in our lives many of us have asked, what is it, that we must do to receive exaltation. As I sat talking with my ward mission leader, I had a distinct prompting from the spirit. No sadly, everything was not laid perfectly before my feet, or anything of that nature. But I was reminded of what we learned this Wednesday in Zone conference. That is, the scriptures "tell" and the spirit "shows" us what we must do. Understanding how to focus on those spiritual impressions, and being taught by the spirit are pivotal to our constant progression.

Don't we covenant when we are Baptized to do this? The answer is yes, but it's not so simple or easy at times. We aren't perfect or will never be in this life. But that is now what is being asked here. Christ goes on to tell him this, "Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me." (Matt 19:21) Christ is asking us to continue to make sacrifices, to be humble ourselves and as a result we will grow. That's what progression is, growing, learning, and doing the will of the Lord more perfectly, not perfect, but better.

Now we all face things that may seem too hard to face, or to hard to give up. "he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions." (Matt 19:22) Just as the young man had walked away from Christ because it was "too hard" for him to give up that part of him. What must we give up, or be willing to give up to become a more perfect disciple of Christ. To be truly converted, to be a consecrated disciple of

Christ is the central person in Christian discipleship. Without Christ, Christianity would not exist and there would be no followers of Christ. To be true followers of Christ, believers must be willing to learn of the ways and teachings of Christ. Christ is central to Christian discipleship because He is the teacher of His disciples. Through the Holy Spirit and Word of God, Jesus Christ calls His disciples to Him and then teaches them how to become like Him. Jesus gives free salvation to believers and followers of Him. However, there is a cost of following Jesus. To be a disciple of Jesus Christ, a person must be obedient and follow the commandments of God. Being obedient to Christ demands followers of Christ to put Christ before their personal relationships, careers, friends, children, and material belongings and to take up their own cross on a daily basis. Disciples of Christ must put Jesus before their own fleshly desires. Nevertheless, followers of Christ can be assured that Jesus will lead them as they follow His teachings and obey His commandments while acting like Jesus and living as he lived (Rogers, Adrian, 2005).…

There are many well-meaning, devout, knowledgeable Christians who well never intentionally build even one world-impacting, world visionary, reproducing disciple. This is because they will never seriously pursue a systematic curriculum designed for the purpose of discipling another to his ultimate destination (Hodges, p117). This need is not reserved for pastors, as evidenced by the writings of Luke. Luke was a layman, a busy doctor with his hectic schedule. Yet, he made time to develop much of our new testament for the purpose of winning Theophilus to a personal faith in Christ (Hodges, p119). We likewise are to be about making disciples.…

This mission reminds us that for the Kingdom of God to continue to break in, individual lives need to be changed, while being motivated and equipped for transformation. Our Book of Discipline offers this cue: “God has used our church to save persons, heal relationships, transform social structures, and spread scriptural holiness, thereby changing the world.” When we change lives and introduce people to the all-loving nature of God, we indeed transform the world. When making disciples, the Church welcomes people into community, educates them on God’s call for Christians, and equips them toward using their spiritual gifts to serve as change agents playing a role in bringing about the Kingdom of…

Obedience; you cannot be a disciple of Christ without obeying Christ. Bonhoeffer brings a point to light that obedience is crucial to being a disciple of Jesus Christ. He shares an example of obeying Christ. Mark 2:14 (KJV) “And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, ‘Follow me’. And he arose and followed him.” Matt. 9:9 and Luke 5:27-28 are also examples of obedience to Christ: Jesus called Levi, and Levi just got up and followed. Bonhoeffer points out, “The call goes out, and without any further ado the obedient deed of the one called follows. The disciple’s answer is not a spoken confession of faith in Jesus. Instead, it is the obedient deed.” There can be so much speculation about Levi not verbally confessing a faith in Christ, that as readers, we can lose sight of the bigger picture. Jesus Christ called Levi, and without a question, Levi left money and all to follow, the moment Christ…

Peter teaches us, followers of Christ, key things to truly follow Christ. In 1 Peter, he stresses that Christians are to be God 's obedient children, "chosen race, royal priesthood, holy nation, God 's own people" (1:14). Us as Christians are striving to be a “human-like” Jesus if you will. We are God’s people on Earth doing his work for the work of Him. One example of a true believer is that you have encountered the true and living God and that you have undergone a change in your heart and soul. Another is realizing that the sacrifice of Christ alone for the forgiveness of his sins, then the Holy Spirit has come and lives in that person. The last example of being a true believer is that you are changed on the inside, not controlled from the outside. It means that your heart has been changed by the presence of God. These are just a couple of definitions that define a true follower. In the CCC 916 it states: “…to give themselves to God who is loved above all and, pursuing the perfection of charity in the service of the Kingdom, to signify and proclaim in the Church the glory of the world to come.” This paragraph supports Peter’s teachings about being a true follower of Christ.…

One of the most important moments in my spiritual life was when I was prophesied to about the calling on my life and when I received my gifts of the spirit. I was in church on September 10, 1999 and my pastor at the time was praying for people to receive healing, blessings, confirmations of Something God had spoken to them and to be released from unclean spirits through the laying on of hands and the movement of the Holy Spirit. The church was a small mobile home unit in a rundown part of Panama City, Florida which seated maybe 40 people. It had cheap, white paneling on the walls and bluish-grey hard knit carpet on the floor. My pastor was dressed in a grey three-piece suit standing in front of the church facing the congregation and the co-pastor dressed in a two-piece tan suit was standing to his right ready to catch anyone who was overcome by the Holy Spirit.…
